Align your PA credentials with Vermont licensing
Vermont requires PA licensure through the Board of Medical Practice before you can practice. Confirm your NCCPA certification is current and your transcripts are ready, since UVM's credentialing process runs parallel to any visa filing and delays in one stall the other.
Target UVM's academic medical departments directly
UVM Medical Center and its affiliated clinics post PA roles tied to specific departments like internal medicine, surgery, and psychiatry. Applying through the department's faculty hiring pipeline, not just the general HR portal, puts your application in front of clinical supervisors who drive sponsorship decisions.
Clarify sponsorship scope before accepting an offer
UVM sponsors multiple visa types for PA roles, but not every position qualifies for every pathway. During the offer stage, ask HR explicitly whether the role supports H-1B, TN, or employment-based Green Card sponsorship so you understand which filing process you're entering.
Use Migrate Mate to identify active PA openings
UVM's PA postings can move quickly given clinical staffing needs. Use Migrate Mate to filter for current Physician Assistant openings at University of Vermont that are open to visa sponsorship, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than guessing.
Prepare for PERM labor market documentation early
If your role moves toward an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card, UVM's legal team will need to run a PERM labor market test through DOL. Gather your educational equivalency evaluations and employment history documentation well before the process starts, since PERM audits can add months to the timeline.

Find Physician Assistant at University of Vermont JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Vermont sponsor H-1B visas for Physician Assistants?
Yes, University of Vermont sponsors H-1B visas for Physician Assistant roles. As a large academic medical institution, UVM works with immigration counsel to file H-1B petitions for qualified international candidates. Because PA roles qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field, they meet USCIS's foundational H-1B eligibility criteria. Confirm sponsorship intent with HR during the offer stage, since not every individual posting is automatically pre-approved for sponsorship.
How do I apply for Physician Assistant jobs at University of Vermont?
Applications go through UVM's official careers portal, where PA roles are listed by department and location. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse current Physician Assistant openings at University of Vermont filtered for visa sponsorship eligibility, which saves time identifying roles where international candidates are welcome. Tailor your application to the clinical department you're targeting, since PA hiring decisions at UVM involve both HR and departmental leadership.
Which visa types are commonly used for Physician Assistant roles at University of Vermont?
UVM has demonstrated willingness to sponsor H-1B, TN, and employment-based Green Card pathways (EB-2 and EB-3) for PA roles. H-1B is the most common route for non-TN eligible candidates. Canadian and Mexican citizens can pursue TN status under USMCA, which is faster and doesn't require waiting for the H-1B cap lottery. F-1 OPT and CPT can bridge the gap for recent PA program graduates while longer-term sponsorship is arranged.
What qualifications does University of Vermont expect for Physician Assistant positions?
UVM requires NCCPA certification, graduation from an ARC-PA accredited PA program, and Vermont state licensure or eligibility for licensure. Most clinical PA roles also expect prior experience in a relevant specialty such as primary care, surgery, or hospital medicine. For visa purposes, your degree and credentials must support the specialty occupation determination that USCIS requires for H-1B classification.
How do I plan my timeline when pursuing a PA role at UVM with visa sponsorship?
Build backward from your start date. H-1B cap-subject filings open in March for an October 1 start, so an offer needs to be in place by late winter at the earliest. TN and H-1B cap-exempt filings through UVM as a nonprofit can move faster, sometimes within two to three months. Factor in Vermont licensure processing time, which runs separately from your visa and can take several weeks after you submit your application to the Board of Medical Practice.
