Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Nursing Jobs at University of Vermont Jobs
Get your credentials evaluated before applying
If your nursing degree is from outside the U.S., have it evaluated by a NACES-approved agency and confirm it meets Vermont Board of Nursing licensure requirements. UVM will expect an active RN license before extending an offer.
Target roles tied to academic medical settings
UVM's nursing openings frequently connect to UVM Medical Center and its health sciences programs. These academic-affiliated positions tend to have more institutional infrastructure for sponsorship than standalone clinical employers.
Ask HR directly about sponsorship eligibility
University HR departments handle sponsorship differently by department and funding source. Ask whether the specific nursing unit has sponsored international candidates before and which visa categories the position is eligible for.
Understand H-1B timing relative to your license
USCIS requires an active RN license for H-1B approval in nursing. If your Vermont license is pending, the employer may need to time the I-129 filing carefully to avoid approval before your license clears.
Browse open nursing roles using Migrate Mate
Filter by University of Vermont on Migrate Mate to see current nursing openings tagged by visa type. This helps you identify which specific roles and departments are actively hiring internationally sponsored candidates.
Prepare for PERM early if targeting a Green Card
PERM labor certification requires DOL to confirm no qualified U.S. workers were available. Universities must run a compliant recruitment process, so discuss permanent residency intent early so the employer can plan the timeline around their academic hiring cycles.

Find Nursing at University of Vermont JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Vermont sponsor H-1B visas for Nursings?
Yes, University of Vermont sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying nursing roles. Nursing positions typically meet the specialty occupation standard because they require a bachelor's degree in nursing as a minimum. Your Vermont RN license must be active at the time of USCIS approval, so coordinate licensure timing carefully with the HR team before they file the I-129 petition.
How do I apply for Nursing jobs at University of Vermont?
Applications go through UVM's official careers portal, where nursing roles are listed by unit and department. You can also browse open positions filtered specifically to University of Vermont on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles alongside their sponsorship history. Tailor your application to the clinical or academic setting of the specific unit, and confirm sponsorship eligibility with the recruiter before investing significant time in the process.
Which visa types does University of Vermont commonly use for Nursing roles?
University of Vermont sponsors H-1B visas for most nursing hires requiring work authorization. For international students completing nursing programs, F-1 OPT and CPT provide a bridge to full employment. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nurses who hold qualifying credentials. For candidates seeking permanent residence, UVM has also supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through PERM labor certification.
What qualifications does University of Vermont expect for sponsored Nursing positions?
Most roles require a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and an active Vermont RN license. Academic or specialty units may prefer candidates with a Master's degree or relevant clinical certifications such as CCRN or OCN. For internationally educated nurses, a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service and passing NCLEX scores are standard prerequisites before UVM can move forward with sponsorship paperwork.
How do I think about the timeline for getting sponsored in a Nursing role at UVM?
H-1B cap-subject petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start, so if you're relying on a new H-1B, plan for a six-month gap between offer and start date. If you're already on OPT or another status, a cap-exempt or change-of-status path may allow an earlier start. PERM labor certification for Green Card cases typically adds one to two years before you can file the immigrant petition, so begin that conversation at the offer stage.
