Credential your healthcare training before applying
UVM's medical center expects Healthcare Assistants to hold state-recognized certifications like a CNA or BLS. Getting these verified and on file before you apply removes a common bottleneck that delays sponsorship conversations with HR.
Confirm OPT authorization before your start date
If you're on F-1 OPT, your EAD must be valid before UVM can put you on payroll. USCIS recommends applying 90 days before your program end date. Delays are common, so don't wait until graduation to file.
Browse Healthcare Assistant openings using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Healthcare Assistant roles at UVM that are flagged for visa sponsorship. It surfaces active listings with sponsorship data so you're not guessing which postings are worth pursuing.
Ask HR directly about PERM timing during the offer stage
If you're targeting a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, UVM will need to run a PERM labor certification through DOL before filing your immigrant petition. Ask HR when they typically initiate PERM for Healthcare Assistant roles so you can plan your timeline realistically.

Find Healthcare Assistant at University of Vermont JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Vermont sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants?
Yes, University of Vermont sponsors H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistant roles. As a university-affiliated medical institution, UVM qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which means it can file H-1B petitions year-round without being subject to the annual lottery. That significantly improves your odds compared to applying through a private employer.
How do I apply for Healthcare Assistant jobs at University of Vermont?
Applications go through UVM's official careers portal, where Healthcare Assistant postings are listed under the medical center or academic health divisions. You can also browse sponsorship-flagged Healthcare Assistant openings at UVM through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa type so you can focus on roles aligned with your immigration status before you apply.
Which visa types does University of Vermont commonly use for Healthcare Assistant roles?
UVM sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Healthcare Assistants depending on your background and eligibility. H-1B is most common for long-term employment. TN is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose role maps to an eligible USMCA category. F-1 OPT and CPT apply if you're a current international student completing a relevant health sciences program.
What qualifications does University of Vermont expect for Healthcare Assistant positions?
UVM typically expects Healthcare Assistants to hold a current CNA certification or equivalent clinical training, along with BLS certification. Relevant hands-on experience in a hospital or clinical setting strengthens your application. Roles within the UVM Medical Center may also require familiarity with electronic health record systems. Meeting these baseline credentials before applying keeps the sponsorship process moving without delays.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Healthcare Assistant role at UVM?
Timeline depends on visa type. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS typically takes two to three months, so you'd want to apply 90 days before your program ends. H-1B petitions for cap-exempt employers like UVM can be filed and approved in two to four months under standard processing, or faster with premium processing. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 runs significantly longer and involves DOL labor certification before USCIS filing.
