Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Medical Assistant Jobs at University of Vermont Jobs
Align your credentials with Vermont licensing requirements
Vermont requires Medical Assistants to meet specific training or certification standards. Before applying, verify your credentials are recognized by the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation so your application clears HR's first-pass review without delays.
Target UVM Health Network postings directly
University of Vermont posts Medical Assistant roles across its affiliated clinical sites, not just the main campus. Search the UVM Health Network careers portal separately from the university's general jobs page to catch openings that go unnoticed by most applicants.
Start OPT paperwork well before your authorization gap
USCIS recommends filing OPT applications at least 90 days before your start date. For a clinical role with a set onboarding schedule, a late EAD can cost you the offer entirely, so build that buffer into your timeline from the day you accept.
Clarify H-1B filing timelines during the offer stage
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start. When you receive an offer, confirm whether UVM's legal team files in the regular lottery or opts for premium processing, since clinical departments often have fixed onboarding cohorts that leave no room for delays.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring Medical Assistant roles
Not every Medical Assistant posting at academic medical centers will explicitly state sponsorship eligibility. Search Migrate Mate to filter University of Vermont roles by visa type so you're only spending time on positions that match your authorization status.
Understand how PERM affects long-term residency planning
If UVM sponsors you for an H-1B and you want to pursue a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, the PERM labor certification process with DOL adds 12 to 18 months before an I-140 can even be filed. Factor this into your multi-year career plan at the institution.

Find Medical Assistant at University of Vermont JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Vermont sponsor H-1B visas for Medical Assistants?
Yes. University of Vermont sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Medical Assistant roles, particularly where the position meets the specialty occupation standard. As a large academic medical institution, UVM has established immigration infrastructure and works with legal counsel on H-1B filings. Confirm sponsorship availability directly with the hiring team when you receive an offer, since not every clinical role is structured to qualify under USCIS guidelines.
How do I apply for Medical Assistant jobs at University of Vermont?
Applications go through the UVM Human Resources portal and, for clinical roles, the UVM Health Network careers site. Submit your resume along with any relevant certifications. If you need visa sponsorship, indicate your work authorization status early in the process. You can also browse open Medical Assistant positions at University of Vermont filtered by visa type through Migrate Mate before applying directly through UVM's official portal.
Which visa types does University of Vermont commonly use for Medical Assistant roles?
University of Vermont sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Medical Assistant positions, as well as immigrant pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term employees. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates from U.S. programs before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
What qualifications does University of Vermont expect for Medical Assistant candidates?
UVM typically looks for a Medical Assistant diploma or associate degree from an accredited program, along with certification such as CMA or RMA. Clinical experience in a hospital or outpatient setting strengthens your application. For international candidates, your credentials should be verifiable and recognized under Vermont's professional standards. Familiarity with electronic health records systems commonly used in academic medical environments is a practical advantage.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Medical Assistant role at University of Vermont?
The timeline depends on the visa type. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS takes up to 90 days, so apply early once you have a start date confirmed. H-1B cap-subject petitions follow the April lottery cycle with an October 1 start date, meaning planning must begin months in advance. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the port of entry, making it a faster option if you qualify.
