Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Professor Jobs at University of Vermont Jobs
Tailor your CV to U.S. academic standards
U.S. faculty CVs emphasize publications, grants, and teaching experience differently than international formats. Structure yours around peer-reviewed output and course history before applying, since UVM hiring committees evaluate these directly when assessing H-1B specialty occupation eligibility.
Target departments with active faculty searches
UVM posts faculty openings through its HR portal and discipline-specific platforms like HigherEdJobs. Focus on departments advertising tenure-track or visiting professor lines, which are far more likely to include visa sponsorship than adjunct or lecturer postings.
Ask about sponsorship before the offer stage
Raise visa sponsorship during the final interview round, not after receiving an offer. UVM's HR and immigration counsel need lead time to assess whether your role qualifies for H-1B and to begin Labor Condition Application filing with DOL before your start date.
Verify your credentials meet specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires that a Professor role specifically requires a degree in a directly related field. If your doctorate is in an adjacent discipline, gather documentation showing the academic standard in your department explicitly requires that specialization, not just a general advanced degree.
Browse UVM Professor openings on Migrate Mate
Finding faculty roles that actively support visa sponsorship is the hardest part of the search. Use Migrate Mate to filter Professor positions at UVM and similar research universities by visa type, so you're only spending time on roles where sponsorship is confirmed.

Find Professor at University of Vermont JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Vermont sponsor H-1B visas for Professors?
Yes, University of Vermont sponsors H-1B visas for Professor roles. Faculty positions typically meet USCIS specialty occupation requirements because they require a doctorate or equivalent degree in a specific academic field. UVM works with immigration counsel to file the Labor Condition Application with DOL and submit the H-1B petition to USCIS on the faculty member's behalf.
How do I apply for Professor jobs at University of Vermont?
Applications for Professor positions at UVM are submitted through the university's HR portal, where each faculty posting lists required materials, typically a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research statement, and reference contacts. You can also browse open Professor roles at UVM that include visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which filters positions by visa type to simplify your search.
Which visa types does University of Vermont use for Professor roles?
UVM commonly sponsors H-1B visas for faculty in specialty occupation roles and supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for eligible professors seeking permanent residence. The university also works with TN status for Canadian and Mexican faculty in qualifying academic occupations. F-1 OPT and CPT are available to international students in postdoctoral or research roles that lead into faculty tracks.
What qualifications does University of Vermont expect for Professor positions?
Most tenure-track Professor roles at UVM require a completed doctorate in the relevant discipline, along with a record of peer-reviewed publications and prior teaching experience. Research-focused departments also look for evidence of external grant activity. For H-1B purposes, your degree must align directly with the duties of the specific role, not just higher education broadly.
How do I plan my timeline for H-1B sponsorship as a Professor at UVM?
H-1B petitions for cap-subject applicants must be filed in April for an October 1 start date, so offer timelines at UVM need to account for that window. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a concurrent or transfer filing can begin sooner. USCIS premium processing is available if you need an expedited decision within 15 business days of receipt.
