Verify Your ECFMG Certification Before Applying
WellSpan Health requires ECFMG certification for international medical graduates before any credentialing or visa filing can begin. Have your certification active and your primary source verifications complete so the process does not stall after an offer is extended.
Target Underserved Practice Sites Strategically
WellSpan operates clinics in rural and underserved areas of Pennsylvania that qualify for HPSA designation. Roles at these sites strengthen J-1 waiver applications through the Conrad 30 program and can accelerate your path to a permanent position.
Clarify EB-2 or EB-3 Sponsorship Early in Negotiations
Family Medicine physicians at large health systems often qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship. Ask WellSpan's in-house immigration team during offer negotiations whether PERM labor certification is included in your employment package before you sign.
Align Your Contract Start Date With H-1B Cap Dates
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, your employment cannot begin before October 1 of the fiscal year USCIS selects your registration. Build this into contract negotiations with WellSpan so your start date is realistic and avoids a gap in clinical coverage.
Use Migrate Mate to Identify Open Family Medicine Roles
Search Migrate Mate to filter Family Medicine openings at WellSpan Health by visa type. This lets you see which specific roles are actively hiring and confirm sponsorship eligibility before you reach out to a recruiter.
Request a Cap-Exempt Filing Through an Affiliated Teaching Program
If WellSpan Health is affiliated with a nonprofit teaching hospital or university medical program, your H-1B may qualify as cap-exempt. Ask the recruiting team whether your specific practice site qualifies, as this allows filing outside the annual lottery window.

Find Family Medicine at WellSpan Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does WellSpan Health sponsor H-1B visas for Family Medicine?
Yes, WellSpan Health sponsors H-1B visas for Family Medicine physicians. As a large regional health system, WellSpan has an established immigration process and works with experienced legal counsel on H-1B filings. If your role is at a site affiliated with a nonprofit teaching program, your petition may qualify as cap-exempt, bypassing the annual USCIS lottery.
Which visa types does WellSpan Health commonly sponsor for Family Medicine roles?
WellSpan Health sponsors several visa categories for Family Medicine physicians, including H-1B, J-1, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and F-1 OPT for eligible recent graduates. The health system also supports EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification for physicians pursuing permanent residency.
What qualifications does WellSpan Health expect for Family Medicine positions?
WellSpan Health requires board certification or active board eligibility in Family Medicine, a valid Pennsylvania medical license, and ECFMG certification for international medical graduates. Clinical experience in an outpatient or primary care setting is expected. Some rural or underserved sites may have additional credentialing requirements tied to the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program.
How do I apply for Family Medicine jobs at WellSpan Health?
You can browse open Family Medicine roles at WellSpan Health on Migrate Mate, which filters positions by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. Once you identify a suitable role, apply directly through WellSpan's careers portal. Having your ECFMG certification, board scores, and Pennsylvania licensure documentation ready will speed up the credentialing review after an offer is made.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Family Medicine physician at WellSpan Health?
For H-1B filings, standard USCIS processing runs several months, though premium processing can reduce adjudication to around 15 business days. J-1 Conrad 30 waiver timelines depend on state program availability and can take three to six months before an H-1B petition is even filed. Starting credential and immigration conversations with WellSpan at least six to nine months before your target start date is realistic planning.
