INTRODUCTION
At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock human performance and healthspan. WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level and live longer through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives. Protecting our members’ data and ensuring our systems scale securely and reliably is core to this mission.
As an Engineering Manager on the Translations Platform team, you will lead a team responsible for building and scaling the systems that enable WHOOP to deliver a seamless, high-quality multilingual experience across mobile, web, and backend services. This includes owning the infrastructure, tooling, and workflows that power localization, internationalization (i18n), and right-to-left (RTL) support, expanding WHOOP’s reach to more global markets. You will operate at the intersection of platform engineering, product experience, and global expansion, partnering closely with Product, Design, Marketing, and external vendors to ensure translations are delivered accurately, efficiently, and at scale. This role is highly execution-focused, with an emphasis on building reliable systems, improving developer workflows, and enabling rapid addition of new languages while navigating tradeoffs like vendor vs. in-house solutions.
Responsibilities
- Own the execution and delivery of the Translations Platform roadmap, including RTL support, localization infrastructure, and developer tooling
- Lead and grow a team of engineers responsible for translation pipelines, language services, and localization frameworks across mobile, web, and backend
- Drive improvements to translation workflows, reducing manual processes, delays, and operational friction in the current system
- Partner with Product, Design, QA, and Marketing to ensure high-quality localized member experiences
- Oversee the integration and evolution of translation vendors, APIs, and internal systems (e.g., Smartling, AI-based translation workflows)
- Ensure systems support scalable language expansion, including complex requirements like bidirectional text, RTL layouts, and data-heavy UI components
- Establish strong operational practices, including monitoring, debugging, and maintaining translation accuracy and freshness across services
- Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams to ensure translation systems are reliable, performant, and well-integrated into the broader architecture
- Manage team execution, balancing new feature delivery, infrastructure improvements, and technical debt reduction
- Mentor engineers and foster a culture of ownership, quality, and continuous improvement
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience managing and developing software engineers in a platform or infrastructure-focused environment
- Experience delivering complex, cross-functional systems that span multiple platforms (mobile, web, backend)
- Strong technical background in distributed systems, APIs, and backend services
- Familiarity with translation pipelines, vendor integrations, or content management systems
- Experience improving developer workflows through tooling, automation, and platform investments
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to balance speed, quality, and long-term scalability in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working with or building localization, internationalization (i18n), or content delivery systems desired
- Familiarity with translation platforms such as Smartling or AI-based translation systems desired
- Experience building or scaling internal platforms that support global product expansion desired
- Knowledge of mobile and frontend challenges related to localization desired (iOS, Android, web)

Align your portfolio to biosignal processing
Whoop's engineering work centers on physiological data, signal processing, and real-time health analytics. Highlight projects involving sensor data, embedded systems, or machine learning on biometric inputs to show direct relevance before you apply.
Target roles that map to your specific visa category
Use Migrate Mate to filter Whoop's open engineering positions by the visa types they sponsor, so you're applying to roles where the sponsorship pathway already fits your status rather than finding out late in the process.
Prepare a degree equivalency argument early
Whoop's engineering roles in health science and wearables often require specialty occupation justification for H-1B petitions. If your degree title doesn't map cleanly to the job description, gather a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved provider before you receive an offer.
Ask about the LCA filing window during offer negotiation
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can receive your H-1B petition. Knowing Whoop's internal timeline for starting that process helps you set a realistic start date and avoid a gap in authorized employment.
Account for cap-subject H-1B lottery timing
If you're not already in H-1B status, Whoop's sponsorship depends on winning the annual USCIS lottery, with registration opening each March for an October 1 start date. Build your job search timeline around that constraint so an offer doesn't expire while you wait.

Does Whoop sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Whoop sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. The process requires your employer to first obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL, then file Form I-129 with USCIS. If you're not already in H-1B status, sponsorship is subject to the annual cap and lottery, which runs each spring for an October 1 start date.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Whoop?
Applications go through Whoop's careers page, where engineering roles are listed by function and team. Whoop's engineering org spans firmware, mobile, backend, and data science, so filtering by your specialization helps. Migrate Mate also aggregates Whoop's open engineering positions and lets you filter by visa type, making it easier to identify roles that match your sponsorship situation before you apply.
Which visa types does Whoop commonly sponsor for Engineering roles?
Whoop sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for engineering positions. F-1 OPT and CPT are typically used earlier in a candidate's career or for new graduates, while H-1B is the standard long-term sponsorship path. TN applies specifically to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations under USMCA.
What qualifications does Whoop expect from Engineering candidates?
Whoop's engineering roles generally require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field. Given the company's focus on wearable health technology, experience with embedded systems, signal processing, biometric data pipelines, or mobile health platforms carries significant weight. Practical experience with physiological data or sensor hardware can differentiate your application from general software candidates.
How do I plan my timeline if Whoop is sponsoring my H-1B?
If you're on F-1 OPT, you need to time your offer and start date so your OPT authorization covers the period before your H-1B takes effect on October 1. STEM OPT extension gives eligible engineers up to 24 additional months of work authorization, which can bridge the gap if you miss one lottery cycle. Confirm your OPT expiration date before accepting an offer so both you and your employer can plan the transition accurately.
