Tips for Your Content Writer Job Search
Tailor your resume for each role
Content writer job listings vary widely in what they emphasize. Pull the exact skills and content types mentioned in each posting, such as SEO articles, case studies, or email copy, and mirror that language in your resume's work history and skills section.
Build a portfolio organized by content type
Hiring managers for content writer roles scan portfolios fast. Organize yours by format, like blog posts, white papers, and product pages, so a hiring manager in fintech or healthtech can immediately find samples that match what their team produces.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists content writer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target companies that publish at high volume
Employers who maintain active blogs, content hubs, or resource centers hire content writers more consistently than those who produce content sporadically. Look at a company's publishing frequency before applying so you know the role is a real ongoing need.
Prepare a writing sample on their topic
Many content writer interviews include a paid or unpaid assignment. Before your interview, draft a short sample in the company's voice on a topic relevant to their industry. Bringing it unsolicited signals initiative and gives the hiring team something concrete to evaluate.
Negotiate scope before you accept an offer
Content writer offers often leave deliverable expectations vague. Before you sign, clarify word count targets, revision rounds, and whether the role includes strategy work or only execution. Misaligned expectations on output volume are a leading reason early exits happen.
Content Writer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most content writers?
The companies hiring the most content writers right now include Infusemedia, Collabera, and Infuse, with the largest share of openings in California, New York, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is especially concentrated among technology platforms, digital marketing agencies, and healthcare organizations that maintain large content libraries.
How many content writer jobs are remote?
About 41% of content writer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making it one of the more location-flexible roles in the writing and communications field. SEO content roles and brand content positions tend to be the most remote-friendly, while technical writing and content strategy roles are more likely to require some in-office presence.
How do you become a content writer?
Start by writing consistently in a specific niche, whether that is technology, personal finance, or health, to build a focused portfolio. Learn foundational SEO so your work is searchable. Contribute to publications, company blogs, or content platforms to accumulate bylines. Once you have several strong samples, target entry-level content writer or junior copywriter roles that match your subject matter experience.
Can you get hired as a content writer with no experience?
Yes, many employers hire content writers who lack formal job history if the portfolio demonstrates strong writing and an understanding of the target audience. Publish your own articles on a personal blog or a platform like Medium to create samples. Focus on a single industry vertical so your portfolio reads as intentional rather than scattered, which reassures hiring managers that you can write on-topic reliably.
What does the content writer interview process look like?
Most content writer interviews begin with a phone or video screen focused on your writing background and the types of content you have produced. A portfolio review typically follows, where a hiring manager or editor walks through samples with you. Many employers then assign a writing test, either a timed prompt or a take-home brief, before a final conversation with a broader team or content director.
Where can I find and apply to content writer jobs?
You can find and apply to content writer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and content specialization, then apply directly to each position. No third-party redirects are involved, so your application goes straight to the hiring employer.
