Corporate Counsel Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a corporate counsel in Pennsylvania?
To become a corporate counsel in Pennsylvania, you must be licensed to practice law through the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners, which requires passing the Pennsylvania Bar Examination or qualifying for admission by motion. Most employers also require a Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited school. After admission, candidates typically build experience in private practice or in-house roles before moving into corporate counsel positions.
How much do corporate counsels make in Pennsylvania?
Corporate counsels in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $157,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,100 for the lowest 10% to over $323,370 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire corporate counsels in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring corporate counsels in Pennsylvania right now include First National Bank, DICK'S Sporting Goods, and BNY, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major health systems, and regulated energy companies means in-house legal demand is broad and relatively stable across industries.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most corporate counsel jobs?
Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Coraopolis have the most corporate counsel openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leads because it is home to major financial institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and law firm headquarters that feed in-house pipelines, while Pittsburgh draws demand from healthcare systems and technology firms, and Harrisburg reflects state regulatory and government-adjacent employer activity.
Are there remote corporate counsel jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most legal roles. About 75% of corporate counsel openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting that contract review, compliance advising, and legal research translate well to remote work. Roles that require frequent court appearances or on-site executive collaboration are less likely to be fully remote.
How can I get hired as a corporate counsel in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a position as a junior associate or staff attorney at a Pennsylvania employer with a structured in-house rotation or new-graduate legal program, such as the large health systems in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh that hire newly admitted attorneys for compliance and contracting roles. Lateral moves from paralegal, compliance analyst, or contract administrator positions are common stepping stones. Passing the Pennsylvania Bar Examination and gaining any transactional clinic experience during law school strengthens early applications considerably.
Where can I find and apply to corporate counsel jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to corporate counsel jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to each employer through the listing.
