Candidates with supervised clinical hours, experience with underserved populations, or fluency in Spanish or Haitian Creole have a clear edge in Brooklyn's diverse, high-need communities.
Which companies hire counselors in Brooklyn?

Brooklyn's employer mix leans heavily toward community health networks, borough-based nonprofits, and New York City public school programs rather than large corporate employers.

Yes, though remote work is limited for counselors since most roles involve direct in-person client contact. About 9% of counselor openings tied to Brooklyn are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, concentrated mainly in administrative, case management, and telehealth-focused positions rather than hands-on clinical or school-based roles.
How can I get a counselor job in Brooklyn with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Brooklyn is through community-based organizations that run city-funded mental health or youth development programs, many of which hire at the counselor assistant or case aide level. Look for roles at borough nonprofits serving Brooklyn neighborhoods like East Flatbush or Red Hook, where high caseload demand creates consistent entry-level openings. Volunteer or internship experience with local organizations strengthens applications significantly.
