Patient Care RN Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a patient care rn in New York?
You become a patient care rn in New York by completing an accredited nursing program, passing the NCLEX-RN, and obtaining licensure through the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions. New York issues its own RN license, and you must hold an active New York license before working in a clinical setting. Nurses licensed in other states may apply through endorsement rather than re-examination.
How much do patient care RNs make in New York?
Patient care RNs in New York earn a median of about $109,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,760 for the lowest 10% to over $157,090 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire patient care rns in New York?
Employers hiring patient care rns in New York right now include Fresenius Medical Care, Newark Wayne Community Hospital, and BAYADA Home Health Care, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of academic medical centers and large integrated health systems means sustained hiring volume throughout the year, particularly for med-surg and telemetry roles.
Which New York cities have the most patient care rn jobs?
Rochester, Bronx, and Cooperstown account for the most patient care rn openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its sheer density of major hospital systems and academic medical centers, while Buffalo and Rochester are driven by anchors like Kaleida Health and the University of Rochester Medical Center, which maintain large inpatient nursing workforces.
Are there remote patient care rn jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Patient care rn work is fundamentally hands-on and bedside, so the vast majority of roles require on-site presence. About 4% of patient care rn openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve telephone triage, case management, or utilization review rather than direct floor nursing.
How can I get hired as a patient care rn in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to a new-graduate residency program, which large New York systems like Northwell Health and NewYork-Presbyterian run specifically for nurses without clinical experience. These structured programs pair new hires with preceptors in med-surg or telemetry units. Holding an active New York RN license and a BSN gives candidates a clear edge, and roles such as patient care technician or nursing assistant can serve as stepping stones into full RN positions at the same institution.
Where can I find and apply to patient care rn jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to patient care rn jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each one.
