Does an Integration Developer role qualify for CPT?
Yes, if the work is an integral part of your curriculum and your school offers a program directly related to integration, software engineering, or information systems. Roles involving API development, middleware configuration, or ETL pipelines typically satisfy the curricular connection requirement. Your DSO makes the final eligibility determination based on your specific program and the employer's job description.
How do I find Integration Developer jobs that accept CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate to find employers with a history of hiring F-1 students in technical integration roles. Many companies are unfamiliar with CPT authorization requirements, so targeting employers who've hired international students before reduces onboarding friction. Look for roles in enterprise software, cloud platforms, and consulting firms, which commonly run integration projects that align with graduate-level coursework.
What should I include in the CPT authorization request to my DSO?
Bring the employer's offer letter showing the job title, duties, start and end dates, and whether the position is part-time or full-time. Your DSO needs to confirm the role connects to your enrolled program. For Integration Developer roles, highlight any API design, systems architecture, or data integration components in the job description that map directly to your coursework.
Does working as an Integration Developer on CPT affect my OPT eligibility?
Part-time CPT does not affect OPT eligibility regardless of how many semesters you use it. Full-time CPT used for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. If you're considering a full-time CPT position that spans multiple semesters, confirm the exact day count with your DSO before accepting the offer so you can plan your post-graduation authorization strategy.
Can I do CPT as an Integration Developer at a startup or smaller company?
Yes. CPT has no employer size requirement and no USCIS filing, so smaller companies can hire you without navigating a petition process. The main practical concern is whether the employer can provide the offer letter your DSO needs and whether they're enrolled in E-Verify, which is required for I-9 verification of F-1 documents. O*NET lists Integration Developer under computer occupations, which can help smaller employers understand the role's academic relevance when reviewing your CPT request.
