Get Access To All JobsSales Account Manager CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Sales Account Manager role qualify for CPT?
Yes, if your business or marketing program includes coursework in sales management, client relations, or revenue strategy, a Sales Account Manager role typically qualifies. Your DSO evaluates whether the specific duties, such as managing a pipeline or handling renewals, connect directly to your enrolled courses. Generic administrative sales support roles may not meet the threshold.
Can I do CPT for a commission-only Sales Account Manager position?
CPT authorization doesn't require a minimum salary, but commission-only structures can create complications. Your DSO needs to document the position accurately on your I-20, and a role with no guaranteed compensation may raise questions about whether it constitutes legitimate employment under F-1 regulations. A base salary plus commission structure is more straightforward to authorize.
How do I find Sales Account Manager roles that accept CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers with a demonstrated history of sponsoring international workers in sales and business development roles. Companies that have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for similar positions are more likely to already understand the documentation requirements for CPT students and won't need extensive education from you during the hiring process.
Does CPT for a Sales Account Manager role affect my OPT eligibility?
Part-time CPT has no effect on your post-graduation OPT. Full-time CPT, meaning 20 or more hours per week, eliminates your OPT eligibility if you use it for 12 or more months in total. If you're planning to pursue full-time CPT for a sales role, track your cumulative hours carefully and discuss the tradeoff with your DSO before accepting.
What does the O*NET profile say about Sales Account Manager requirements?
O*NET classifies Sales Account Manager roles under sales representatives categories and typically requires moderate on-the-job training alongside post-secondary education. For CPT purposes, this matters because your DSO needs to demonstrate the role demands skills your academic program teaches. Reviewing the O*NET task and knowledge lists helps you frame the connection between your coursework and the position when submitting your CPT request.
