Does a warehouse job qualify for CPT as an F-1 student?
It depends on your degree program. A warehouse role qualifies for CPT if it connects directly to your coursework, such as supply chain management, logistics, industrial engineering, or operations research. Generic physical labor with no curricular link won't be approved. Your DSO evaluates the connection between the specific job duties and your academic program, not just the job title.
How do I find warehouse employers who understand CPT authorization?
Search Migrate Mate for logistics, distribution, and operations employers with experience hiring international students. Targeting companies already familiar with CPT work authorization reduces the risk of an offer being rescinded after HR reviews your I-20. Large third-party logistics providers and e-commerce distribution centers tend to have established onboarding processes for F-1 students.
Can I work full-time hours in a warehouse on CPT?
Yes, but full-time CPT comes with a significant consequence: 12 or more months of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. If you're considering OPT after graduation, keep warehouse CPT engagements part-time or limit full-time authorizations to under 12 cumulative months. Confirm your running total with your DSO before accepting any full-time offer.
What documentation do warehouse employers need to verify my CPT?
Your employer needs your updated I-20 showing the CPT authorization with the specific employer name, start date, and end date, plus your valid F-1 visa and passport. The employer also verifies your work authorization through E-Verify. Make sure the employer name on your I-20 exactly matches the legal entity name on your offer letter to avoid E-Verify mismatches.
What happens if my warehouse CPT role ends before the authorized end date?
If your position ends early, you stop working immediately and notify your DSO so they can update your I-20. You don't carry any penalty for an early end date, but you also can't continue working under that authorization after the position ends. If you start a new role, your DSO must issue a fresh CPT authorization with the new employer's information before you begin.
