Custodial Worker Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a custodial worker in Missouri?
Missouri does not require a state-issued license to work as a custodial worker, so entry is open to applicants with a high school diploma or GED. Most Missouri employers provide on-the-job training covering chemical safety, equipment operation, and infection-control protocols. Earning a nationally recognized credential such as a ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard certification can strengthen your application with larger institutional employers like hospital systems or university facilities departments.
Which companies hire custodial workers in Missouri?
Companies currently hiring custodial workers in Missouri include Sodexo, Education Plus, and Clean-Tech Company, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Missouri's large healthcare networks, public university systems, and commercial facility management contractors are among the most consistent sources of custodial worker openings year-round.
Which Missouri cities have the most custodial worker jobs?
St. Louis, Kansas City, and Lees Summit have the most custodial worker openings in Missouri. Kansas City and St. Louis drive the bulk of listings due to their dense concentrations of hospital campuses, corporate office parks, and public institutions, while Springfield's growing healthcare and higher-education sectors sustain strong demand in the southwest part of the state.
Are there remote custodial worker jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. Custodial work is hands-on and tied to physical facilities, so the vast majority of positions require on-site presence. About 0% of custodial worker openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to be supervisory or facilities-coordination roles rather than direct cleaning positions.
How can I get hired as a custodial worker in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to large institutional employers, such as Missouri hospital systems or public school districts, that hire and train new custodial staff directly. SSM Health, Mercy Health, and the Kansas City and St. Louis public school systems regularly post entry-level openings that come with paid on-the-job training. Lateral moves from roles like warehouse porter, laundry aide, or groundskeeper are common stepping stones, and completing a basic OSHA 10-hour general industry course gives first-time applicants a visible credential edge.
