Data Engineering Manager Jobs in Indiana

The Manager, Data Engineering, is responsible for leading the development, implementation, governance, and support of enterprise data solutions that enable analytics, reporting, operational decision-making, and strategic initiatives across the organization. This position provides both people leadership and technical leadership for a team of Data Engineers and Data Management Analysts responsible for data engineering, data governance, analytical solution delivery, testing and validation, application security administration, user enablement, and enterprise reporting capabilities.

This role partners closely with operational leaders, Information Systems, Analytics, and Data Management stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable, sustainable technical solutions. The Manager, Data Engineering provides technical leadership while remaining engaged in the design, development, review, and troubleshooting of enterprise data solutions that support trusted organizational decision-making across clinical, financial, and operational business functions.

Leads the Data Engineering function by:

• Providing leadership, direction, mentorship, and professional development for Data Engineers and Data Management Analysts.

• Establishing engineering standards, technical best practices, documentation standards, and development methodologies.

• Managing team priorities, resource allocation, project delivery, and workload planning.

• Supporting recruitment, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and career development activities.

• Developing technical and business capabilities across the team through mentoring, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning opportunities.

Provides technical leadership for enterprise data solutions by:

• Guiding the design, development, and support of scalable, reliable, and maintainable enterprise data architectures.

• Providing technical leadership while remaining engaged in the design, development, review, and troubleshooting of data solutions.

• Leading the development and maintenance of enterprise data models, analytical datasets, integration frameworks, and data pipelines.

• Establishing standards for SQL development, data transformation, testing, deployment, documentation, and code review.

• Evaluating technologies, methodologies, and architectural approaches that support organizational goals and long-term sustainability.

• Leading resolution of complex technical, integration, performance, and data quality issues.

• Supporting modernization initiatives that improve scalability, maintainability, security, and operational efficiency.

Supports enterprise data governance and analytical solution delivery by:

• Partnering with business stakeholders to establish and maintain trusted business definitions, enterprise metrics, metadata, and data standards.

• Supporting the development and maintenance of data governance processes, data lineage, and data quality practices.

• Ensuring appropriate testing, validation, and quality assurance processes are applied to enterprise data assets and analytical solutions.

• Promoting consistency and standardization across analytical methodologies, reporting practices, and business definitions.

• Supporting the creation and maintenance of trusted, governed data assets that enable enterprise reporting and analytics.

• Collaborating with stakeholders to improve trust, usability, and accessibility of organizational data.

Supports enterprise analytics, reporting, and user enablement by:

• Supporting the development and maintenance of dashboards, scorecards, reporting solutions, and analytical datasets.

• Ensuring reporting and analytics solutions align with business requirements and organizational standards.

• Providing oversight of application security processes related to analytics and reporting platforms.

• Supporting administration and governance of user access and security controls in accordance with organizational policies.

• Ensuring end users have access to training, documentation, and support resources necessary to effectively utilize analytical solutions.

• Promoting adoption and effective use of enterprise analytics capabilities through stakeholder engagement, communication, and education.

Partners with business and technical stakeholders by:

• Collaborating with operational leaders, analysts, Information Systems teams, and other stakeholders to understand business priorities and requirements.

• Translating business needs into scalable technical solutions and enterprise data capabilities.

• Partnering with Data Management and Analytics teams to support enterprise reporting and decision-making initiatives.

• Supporting the development of trusted data assets that enable consistent reporting, analytics, and operational insights.

• Communicating technical concepts and solution approaches effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Building strong partnerships that align data engineering capabilities with organizational goals.

Supports continuous improvement and innovation by:

• Evaluating emerging technologies, data engineering methodologies, and industry best practices.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

• Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.

• Completes mandatory education, annual competencies, and department-specific education within established timeframes.

• Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year if required.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.

• Seven (7) or more years of experience in data engineering, database development, data architecture, data integration, or related technical disciplines required.

• Two (2) or more years of leadership, supervisory, project leadership, or team mentoring experience required.

• Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise-scale data solutions required.

• Advanced SQL experience required.

• Experience with relational databases, data modeling, data architecture, and data pipeline development required.

• Experience leading or supporting teams responsible for data governance, business intelligence, reporting, testing, validation, training, user support, or analytics delivery preferred.

• Healthcare industry experience preferred.

• Experience working with Oracle Health (formerly Cerner), Oracle Health Data Intelligence (HDI), Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence (FDI), or comparable healthcare clinical, financial, and operational data platforms preferred.

• Experience supporting enterprise business domains such as Revenue Cycle, Reimbursement, Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain, or other operational functions preferred.

• Experience working with cloud-based data platforms, data warehouses, ETL/ELT technologies, business intelligence platforms, or modern data engineering solutions preferred.

Preferred Certifications

• Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, SnowPro Core Certification, Databricks Data Engineer Certification, or comparable data engineering certification

• Project Management Professional (PMP)

• Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or equivalent Agile certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Demonstrated expertise in data engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices.

• Advanced SQL and relational database skills.

• Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture, data modeling, integration patterns, and data pipeline development.

• Understanding of data governance, metadata management, business definitions, data lineage, and data quality practices.

• Experience supporting dashboard development, testing, validation, user enablement, and enterprise reporting solutions.

• Knowledge of application security concepts, user access management, and governance controls related to analytics platforms.

• Ability to lead technical teams while providing effective coaching, mentorship, and professional development.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

• Experience establishing engineering standards, testing methodologies, and code review practices.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to build collaborative relationships across technical and business teams.

• Understanding of healthcare operational, financial, and administrative data concepts preferred.

Experience supporting analytics and reporting across business functions such as Revenue Cycle, Finance, Human Resources, and Supply Chain preferred.
