Why this job matters:
Provide strategic and operational leadership for the enterprise data ecosystem, overseeing the data, ELT, API and AI platforms. Ensures that the organization’s data and integration infrastructure is modern, scalable, secure, and built to support advanced analytics, cloud adoption, and enterprise interoperability.
Lead a multidisciplinary engineering and product management team to design, deliver, and optimize data ingestion, transformation, governance, AI and API integrations. Drive best practices for data architecture, platform reliability, integration design, and automation. Collaborate closely with technology, architecture, cybersecurity, analytics, and business stakeholders to ensure data accessibility, quality, and consistency across the enterprise.
What you will do:
- Define and execute strategy for enterprise data, integration, AI and API platforms aligned to business, architecture, and cloud objectives.
- Own and evolve data, AI, API, and integration platforms as productized capabilities, driving governance, intake, prioritization, and cross‑team alignment to deliver measurable business value.
- Manage platform budgets, vendor relationships, operational metrics, and continuous optimization.
- Establish and govern enterprise standards for API design, integration patterns, security, observability, and lifecycle management while owning and operating the API and integration platforms that enable scalable service‑to‑service communication.
- Monitor emerging technology and market trends and update the data and integration platform design practices and tools as capabilities change over time
- Oversee architecture and evolution of modern data platforms to enable scalable and reusable integrations and data capabilities supporting analytics, interoperability, and AI use cases following industry best practices.
- Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, cloud-native architecture, automated testing, and environment standardization.
- Enable and govern AI and intelligent integrations across platforms in alignment with enterprise security, privacy, and ethical AI standards.
- Implement and enforce data governance, privacy, and security controls, ensuring compliance with architectural standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
- Maintain documentation including standards, SOPs, release notes, and platform governance artifacts.
- Communicate platform vision, roadmaps, KPIs, opportunities and risks and operational health to technology and business stakeholders in clear, concise, and accessible terms.
- Provide leadership and coaching to data, integration, and API product managers and engineers, fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and growth-oriented team environment.

What you need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
- Five to seven years of experience in data engineering, integration engineering, cloud engineering, or related disciplines.
- Three to five years of leadership experience in team or technical management roles.
- Strong expertise in data architecture, ELT frameworks, data warehousing, lakehouse patterns, and metadata management.
- Experience with Snowflake, Azure Data Platforms, Netezza, Microsoft SQL, PostgreSQL and Cosmos.
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality programs, and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure), including storage, compute, integration, and data services.
- Experience with API management platforms (Google Apigee, Azure APIM), RESTful service design, messaging systems, and event-driven architectures.
- Strong understanding of SQL, Python, and modern data pipeline tooling (e.g., Matillion, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, dbt, Datastage).
- Knowledge of CI/CD, Git-based workflows, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, prioritize diverse workstreams, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Location:
BCBSRI is headquartered in downtown Providence, conveniently located near the train station and bus terminal. We actively support associate well-being and work/life balance and offer the following schedules, based on role:
- In-office : onsite 5 days per week
- Hybrid: onsite 2-4 days per week
