DevOps roles in New Jersey require no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and technical credentials. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, though candidates with associate degrees and strong hands-on portfolios are also hired. Industry certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Google Professional DevOps Engineer, or the Linux Foundation's Certified Kubernetes Administrator carry significant weight with New Jersey hiring managers, particularly in financial services and pharma.
How much do DevOpses make in New Jersey?
DevOpses in New Jersey earn a median of about $135,940 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $84,880 for the lowest 10% to over $207,200 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire devopss in New Jersey?
Employers hiring devopss in New Jersey right now include JPMorganChase, AMD, and Citi, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's dense concentration of financial institutions along the Hudson waterfront and major pharmaceutical headquarters in the Princeton corridor keeps demand from these and similar large organizations consistently active.
Which New Jersey cities have the most devops jobs?
Jersey City, Parsippany-Troy Hills, and New Jersey account for the most devops openings in New Jersey. Jersey City and Newark drive volume through their large financial services and technology campuses positioned directly across from Manhattan, while Princeton and its surrounding corridor attract openings tied to pharmaceutical giants and research-driven tech firms that have long anchored that region.
Are there remote devops jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of devops openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how naturally the work translates to distributed environments. Roles focused on cloud architecture, pipeline development, and infrastructure-as-code are the most likely to be fully remote, while positions requiring hands-on data center work or close collaboration with on-site hardware teams tend to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a devops in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a systems administrator, junior developer, or IT operations role at a New Jersey employer, then building DevOps skills through hands-on project work. Large New Jersey institutions like Cognizant, Conduent, and major financial services firms run associate or rotational technology programs that accept candidates without dedicated DevOps experience. Earning a foundational cloud certification and contributing to public infrastructure-as-code repositories gives hiring managers in New Jersey concrete evidence of ability before a formal role change.
