Wight & Company is seeking a strategic Director of Technology to lead the firm’s technology operations, cybersecurity, enterprise systems, and technology partnerships. Reporting to the Chief Innovation Officer, this role serves as the firm’s senior technology leader, responsible for ensuring that technology services, infrastructure, applications, and vendors effectively support our architecture, engineering, construction, and corporate teams. This position is responsible for technology operations, governance, and execution while partnering closely with the Chief Innovation Officer on innovation strategy, digital transformation, artificial intelligence initiatives, and emerging technologies. The ideal candidate understands both the business of design and construction and the technology platforms that enable project delivery, collaboration, and operational excellence.
Essential Responsibilities
Lead Technology Operations:
- Manage the firm’s outsourced IT services provider and dedicated onsite technology support team.
- Ensure reliable, secure, and responsive technology services across the organization.
- Oversee infrastructure, cloud services, networking, telecommunications, mobile devices, workplace and construction jobsite technology, and end-user computing.
- Develop and maintain technology standards, governance practices, and operational policies.
Technology Partnerships & Vendor Management:
- Serve as the primary owner of the firm’s relationships with key technology vendors and strategic platforms, ensuring that systems are optimized, integrated, and aligned with business objectives.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with business leaders to ensure technology platforms effectively support project delivery, collaboration, financial operations, and organizational performance.
- Manage technology procurement, contracts, renewals, licensing, and vendor performance.
Drive Cybersecurity & Resiliency:
- Lead cybersecurity strategy, risk management, security governance, and incident response planning.
- Oversee business continuity, disaster recovery, backup, and resiliency programs.
- Ensure compliance with client requirements, cyber insurance requirements, and industry best practices.
Optimize Enterprise Applications & AEC Technology:
- Oversee business-critical software platforms and enterprise applications.
- Support and optimize the firm’s AEC technology ecosystem in collaboration with the BIM team, including design, BIM, project management, collaboration, document management, and construction technologies.
- Ensure technology effectively supports both office and field operations.
- Support the development and maintenance of data integrations, reporting platforms, and data pipelines that enable project, operational, and financial data to be collected, connected, and utilized across the organization.
Partner on Innovation:
- Collaborate with the Chief Innovation Officer on digital transformation initiatives, AI adoption, and emerging technology opportunities.
- Help identify and implement technologies that improve efficiency, project delivery, collaboration, and client service.
Background & Experience Expectations
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive technology leadership experience.
- Experience managing technology vendors and outsourced IT service providers.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity, cloud technologies, infrastructure, networking, and enterprise applications.
- Experience developing technology strategy, budgets, governance programs, and technology roadmaps.
- Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership and business stakeholders.
- Experience within architecture, engineering, construction, professional services, or project-based organizations is preferred.
- Experience with one or more of the following platforms is preferred: Autodesk Construction Cloud (Forma), Bentley applications, Procore, Microsoft 365, Unanet, CMiC, Egnyte, or similar enterprise platforms.
- Experience with digital transformation initiatives, workflow automation, data governance, or AI-enabled business solutions is preferred.
LOCATION & WORK ARRANGEMENT:
- Based in Wight & Company’s Darien headquarters.
- Periodic travel to the Chicago office is expected, typically 1-2 days per month.
- Hybrid work arrangements are supported when business needs permit, typically one day per week.
Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.
