Align your degree to the role
E-3 visa eligibility requires your bachelor's degree to match the specialty occupation. For AGM roles, a degree in business administration, hospitality management, or operations management directly supports the application. A general arts degree without relevant coursework can draw scrutiny.
Target multi-unit operators and hotel groups
Hospitality groups, restaurant chains, and retail operators with multiple U.S. locations file LCAs regularly and have HR teams familiar with the process. These employers are far more likely to sponsor an AGM than a single-location independent operator.
Request the LCA before you resign
Your employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before you can apply for the E-3. Confirm the LCA is certified, not just submitted, before giving notice. Certification typically takes seven business days, but delays happen.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for end-to-end support
AGM sponsorship involves LCA certification, DS-160 preparation, and consulate documentation. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle the LCA and visa paperwork so your employer isn't navigating the process alone, which reduces the risk of errors that delay your start date.
Find E-3 sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to find Assistant General Manager roles at employers who have sponsored E-3 or H-1B visas before. Filtering by sponsorship history cuts the prospecting time and surfaces employers already familiar with the LCA filing process.
Prepare an Australian credential equivalency letter
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree, but consular officers may request documentation. A credential evaluation from a USCIS-recognized credential evaluator supports your case if the consulate raises questions.
E-3 Visa Assistant General Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Assistant General Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to find Assistant General Manager roles at U.S. employers with active E-3 and H-1B sponsorship history. Filtering by visa sponsorship history is the most efficient way to avoid roles where the employer has never filed an LCA and is unlikely to start.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Assistant General Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the employer defines the role. An AGM position that requires a bachelor's degree in business administration, hospitality management, or operations qualifies. A role that accepts any degree or substitutes experience for a degree without clear justification is harder to support. The job description and offer letter both matter at the consulate.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Assistant General Manager roles?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so you can apply year-round as soon as you have a qualifying offer. The H-1B has an annual cap of 85,000 slots selected by lottery in April, meaning you could wait over a year for a chance to apply. For Australian nationals, the E-3 is a direct path that bypasses that uncertainty entirely.
Can I change employers after starting on an E-3 as an AGM?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL before you can begin working for them. The E-3 is employer-specific, so you can't carry it across to a new company automatically. Once the new LCA is certified and you have a new offer letter, you'll need to attend a consulate appointment to get a new E-3 stamp.
