Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Automation Technician
Verify your credentials translate correctly
A three-year Australian engineering or mechatronics degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's for E-3 purposes. Have a credential evaluation ready before you apply so employers don't stall on sponsorship over degree recognition.
Target employers with active LCA filings
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for Automation Technician or Industrial Technician LCA filings. Employers who have filed before understand the process and won't need educating when you raise E-3 sponsorship in your interview.
Frame your role as a specialty occupation upfront
E-3 eligibility turns on whether the role requires a specific degree, not just any bachelor's. When applying, emphasize that your position involves PLC programming, SCADA systems, or robotics integration, not general maintenance work that any technician could perform.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for a clean handoff
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork. This keeps the process moving without placing an unfamiliar administrative burden on your new employer, which is often the reason sponsorship offers fall through.
Get your offer letter to specify degree requirements
The consular officer will review your offer letter to confirm the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Ask your employer to state explicitly that a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or technical field is required, not just preferred, for the position.
Align your interview timeline with LCA processing
Your employer must file the LCA with DOL and receive certification before your consulate appointment. DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven working days, but factor this into your start date negotiation so there's no gap between your offer and your visa application.

Find Automation Technician JobsAutomation Technician E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Automation Technician jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. You can filter by job title and see employers with a track record of sponsoring international workers. Standard job boards don't surface sponsorship eligibility, so you can spend weeks applying to roles where sponsorship was never on the table.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Automation Technician role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is defined. Automation Technician positions that require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field, and that involve programming PLCs, configuring SCADA systems, or integrating robotic equipment, generally qualify. Roles framed as general maintenance or requiring only a trade certificate are unlikely to meet the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies to E-3 petitions.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for Automation Technician roles?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been fully used, so there's no lottery and no waiting period. The H-1B involves a randomised lottery with a 25 to 30 percent selection rate and a mandatory October 1 start date. For an Automation Technician with a qualifying degree, the E-3 is a far more predictable path to a U.S. role.
What happens to my E-3 status if I change employers mid-year?
Your E-3 status is tied to a specific employer and role. If you change jobs, your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa before starting. There's no portability provision as there is with H-1B under AC21. Plan for a gap of at least two to four weeks between your last day and your first day while the new LCA is certified and your consulate appointment is scheduled.
