Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship in Aviation
Match your credentials to FAA requirements
Australian CASA licences and qualifications aren't automatically recognised by the FAA. Get your credentials formally evaluated before applying so employers can confirm your qualifications meet the specialty occupation threshold required for E-3 visa eligibility.
Target airlines and MRO operators directly
Large U.S. carriers and maintenance, repair, and overhaul facilities file LCAs regularly and have established E-3 sponsorship processes. Approach their hiring teams directly, as aviation roles often fill through internal pipelines before reaching public job boards.
Confirm the role requires a specific degree
Not every aviation title qualifies as a specialty occupation. Roles like aircraft dispatcher or ramp agent typically don't meet the bachelor's degree requirement. Prioritise positions such as aerospace engineer, avionics specialist, or airline operations analyst where a specific degree field is genuinely required.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and paperwork
Once you have an offer, your employer must file a certified LCA with the DOL before your visa application can proceed. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so the process moves quickly and correctly from offer to consulate appointment.
Clarify worksite location before the LCA is filed
Aviation roles often involve multiple bases, training facilities, or contract worksites. The LCA must list the correct primary worksite, and changes after certification can require a new filing. Lock down your permanent work location with your employer before the DOL submission.
Renew your E-3 before each contract period ends
E-3 visas are issued in two-year increments with no cap on renewals, but your status lapses if you let it expire between contract cycles. Start your renewal application at least 90 days before your current period ends to avoid a gap in authorisation.
E-3 Visa Aviation: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find aviation jobs in the U.S. with E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 visa sponsorship. Search by aviation job title to see positions from employers already familiar with the E-3 process. Targeting employers with prior sponsorship experience significantly reduces the friction of negotiating the visa arrangement from scratch.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Do aviation roles qualify as specialty occupations for the E-3?
It depends on the specific role. Positions like aerospace engineer, avionics systems engineer, flight operations analyst, and air traffic control specialist typically qualify because they require a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. General operational roles such as flight attendant, dispatcher, or ground crew typically don't meet the specialty occupation standard and won't support an E-3 petition.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian aviation professionals?
The E-3 is almost always the better path for Australians. The H-1B visa requires entering an annual lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate, while the E-3 has a 10,500-slot annual allocation that has never been fully used. Your employer can file an E-3 LCA with the DOL at any time of year, and you can apply for your visa stamp directly at a U.S. consulate in Australia without waiting for a USCIS petition approval.
Can I change aviation employers while on an E-3?
Yes, but you can't simply transfer your existing E-3 to the new employer. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need to apply for a new E-3 visa stamp before starting work, or apply for a change of status if you're already in the U.S. There's no portability provision equivalent to what H-1B holders have under AC21.
