Frame your Australian degree for U.S. employers
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a four-year U.S. degree for E-3 visa purposes. Include your degree field prominently on your resume so hiring managers can quickly confirm the specialty occupation requirement is met.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for Labor Condition Application filings under business analyst job titles. Employers who have filed LCAs before understand the E-3 process and are far less likely to withdraw an offer over sponsorship concerns.
Clarify internship duration before accepting an offer
E-3 status is issued in two-year increments, but many internships run three to six months. Confirm with your employer whether they'll support an E-3 for a short-term role, since some companies only sponsor full-time conversions rather than fixed-term internship contracts.
Use Migrate Mate to handle LCA and consulate prep
The LCA must be certified by DOL before you can attend your consulate appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage the LCA submission, DS-160, and consulate documentation so nothing stalls your start date.
Verify the role meets specialty occupation criteria
Not every internship posting qualifies as a specialty occupation. The job description must require a degree in a specific field, not just prefer one. If the listing says 'bachelor's preferred,' ask the recruiter to confirm the role is classified as requiring a degree before you proceed.
Address E-3 early in the offer negotiation stage
Raise E-3 sponsorship during the offer call, not after signing. Many U.S. employers don't distinguish the E-3 from the H-1B lottery. Explaining that the E-3 has no cap and requires no lottery entry often removes the hesitation before it becomes a formal objection.
E-3 Visa Business Analyst Intern: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Business Analyst Intern jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. It filters for employers with LCA filing history so you're only seeing companies that have already navigated the process. General job boards don't filter by E-3 sponsorship willingness, which wastes time on employers who will decline.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Business Analyst Intern role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It qualifies when the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in a related field such as business, information systems, finance, or economics. The key is the job description: if the employer can show the role requires a specific degree, USCIS and the consular officer will accept it. Internships that accept any major or treat the degree as optional are harder to support.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Business Analyst Intern roles?
The H-1B requires entering a lottery with roughly a one-in-four chance of selection, and you can only apply once per year. The E-3 has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been filled, so there's no lottery and no waiting period. For Australian nationals, the E-3 is a direct path that doesn't depend on chance.
Can my employer sponsor an E-3 for a short-term internship contract?
Yes, the E-3 can cover short-term roles, but the employer must still file a Labor Condition Application with DOL and go through the standard consulate process. Some employers restrict sponsorship to permanent hires because of the administrative overhead. Confirming sponsorship policy before the final offer round avoids losing weeks to a process that ends in a decline.
