Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree satisfies the E-3 visa degree requirement, but many U.S. hiring managers assume four years is the minimum. Have a credential evaluation letter ready that confirms equivalency before your first interview.
Target employers with existing LCA filing history
Companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications before understand the DOL certification step and won't stall at 'we've never done this.' Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify employers with prior E-3 or H-1B visa filings in business development roles.
Find Business Development Consultant roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters U.S. job listings specifically for E-3 visa sponsorship, so you're only seeing employers already open to the process. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once an offer comes through.
Frame your offer letter to satisfy specialty occupation requirements
The E-3 requires your role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Ask your employer to specify the required degree field in the offer letter, not just the job title, because a vague description can trigger additional scrutiny at the consulate.
Book your consulate appointment before accepting a start date
Australian consulates process E-3 applications at Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth, but wait times vary by location and season. Confirm current appointment availability before agreeing to a U.S. start date so your employer isn't left with a gap in your onboarding timeline.
Negotiate employer coverage of LCA and visa filing costs
The DOL prohibits employers from passing LCA filing costs to E-3 workers, but other fees are negotiable. Raise the cost conversation during the offer stage, not after signing, so there's no ambiguity about who covers consulate and administrative fees.
E-3 Visa Business Development Consultant: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Business Development Consultant jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search, as it surfaces U.S. Business Development Consultant roles specifically filtered for E-3 visa sponsorship. General job boards mix sponsored and non-sponsored listings without distinction, which wastes time on employers who won't support the process. Targeting companies with prior LCA filing history in sales or business development functions significantly increases your response rate.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Business Development Consultant role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business administration, marketing, or international commerce. Roles where any degree is acceptable, or where experience substitutes freely for education, are harder to qualify. If your offer letter describes required duties tied to a specific discipline, the specialty occupation threshold is typically met without difficulty.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Business Development Consultants?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens, but it has no lottery and no annual cap, meaning you can apply at any time of year without competing for a limited pool of slots. The H-1B requires winning a random selection draw with a roughly 25% chance, and you can only apply once per year. For Australians in business development, the E-3 is a far more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Can I change employers or roles after starting on an E-3 visa?
You can change employers on the E-3, but the new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new visa stamp if yours is tied to the previous company. There's no formal portability rule as there is with some other visa types, so time the transition carefully. Starting the new LCA process before your last day with the current employer reduces any gap in authorized work status.
