Match your degree to the role
Your Australian bachelor's degree must align with the specific care assistant position, not just healthcare broadly. A degree in health sciences, psychology, or social work strengthens your specialty occupation case far more than a general nursing aide background.
Target employers with existing E-3 history
Large hospital systems, aged care networks, and disability service providers in the U.S. are more likely to understand E-3 visa sponsorship requirements. Search DOL's Labor Condition Application disclosure data to identify which healthcare employers have filed LCAs before.
Frame sponsorship as low-cost during offer negotiation
E-3 sponsorship costs the employer far less than H-1B visa sponsorship and involves no lottery risk. Explaining this directly during salary negotiations removes the hesitation many U.S. care employers have about taking on a visa candidate.
Get your credential equivalency documented early
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees, but have a credential evaluation letter ready before your interview. USCIS may request formal equivalency evidence, and having it prepared avoids delays after an offer is made.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your LCA
Once you have an offer, the employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your visa can proceed. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle the LCA and all subsequent visa paperwork so nothing stalls between your offer and your consulate appointment.
Clarify E-3 status before your consulate interview
Care assistant roles can attract scrutiny at Australian consulates if the officer questions whether the position meets specialty occupation standards. Bring documentation showing the role requires a specific degree, not just any bachelor's degree, to support your nonimmigrant intent.
E-3 Visa Care Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find care assistant jobs in the U.S. that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for care assistant roles with E-3 sponsorship, since it filters specifically for employers willing to sponsor Australian nationals. Most general job boards don't distinguish E-3-ready employers from those that only know the H-1B process, which makes targeted searching difficult without a dedicated tool.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a care assistant role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
It depends on how the role is defined by the employer. A care assistant position qualifies under E-3 only if the employer specifies that a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as health sciences, social work, or psychology, is a genuine requirement. Roles where any degree suffices, or where experience substitutes freely for education, are harder to support under specialty occupation rules.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for care assistant roles?
The E-3 is significantly more practical for Australians pursuing care assistant jobs. There's no annual lottery, no cap pressure, and the process can begin any time of year. H-1B registration opens once a year in March and selection is randomized, meaning you could wait years before being eligible to work. The E-3 also renews indefinitely in two-year increments, giving long-term career stability.
Can I change care assistant employers after arriving in the U.S. on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but you'll need to start the E-3 process fresh with the new employer. Your E-3 status is tied to a specific employer and approved LCA, so a job change requires a new LCA filing and either a new visa stamp at an Australian consulate or a change of status application. You can work for the new employer once the new LCA is certified and your petition is approved, not before.
