Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Certified Respiratory Therapist
Verify your credential equivalency before applying
Australian respiratory therapy qualifications vary in structure from U.S. programs. Confirm your degree maps to a U.S. bachelor's level before the LCA stage, since the DOL prevailing wage determination and specialty occupation standard both depend on it.
Target hospitals with existing E-3 sponsorship history
Large health systems and academic medical centers, including VA hospitals and university-affiliated ICUs, have HR and legal teams already familiar with LCA filing. Approaching employers who have never sponsored a visa means you're training them on the process mid-hire.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your LCA
The LCA must be certified by the DOL before your consulate appointment, and errors in the prevailing wage selection delay everything. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end so credentialing gaps don't stall your timeline.
Get your NBRC credential before the offer stage
Most U.S. hospital employers require Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care. Without it, offers in ICU and acute care roles are rare, and some states won't issue a license to a non-credentialed RT.
Confirm state licensure requirements match your start date
Each state issues its own RT license, and processing times range from two to eight weeks. Your visa approval and your employer's start date both depend on your license being active, so apply to the relevant state board as soon as you have a confirmed job offer.
Negotiate the employer's role in the filing process upfront
The E-3 requires your employer to sign the LCA, confirm prevailing wage compliance, and provide a formal job offer letter. Clarify during negotiations which HR contacts handle immigration paperwork so the filing doesn't stall after you've accepted.

Find Certified Respiratory Therapist JobsCertified Respiratory Therapist E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Certified Respiratory Therapist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. Search for Certified Respiratory Therapist positions directly on Migrate Mate to see employers who understand the E-3 process. Targeting health systems with existing international staff shortens the sponsorship conversation significantly.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Certified Respiratory Therapist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Respiratory therapy requires a bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy or a closely related clinical field, which satisfies the USCIS specialty occupation standard. The DOL also recognizes it as a professional occupation in its wage classifications, so LCA certification is straightforward for qualified RT positions in hospital and acute care settings.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian respiratory therapists?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so you can apply at any point during the year once you have a job offer. The H-1B cap is oversubscribed, meaning most applicants enter a lottery and many aren't selected. For Australian RTs, the E-3 is the practical path since H-1B selection is uncertain and the cap fills quickly each fiscal year.
Can I transfer my E-3 status if I change hospital employers?
Yes, but the E-3 is employer-specific. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and provide a new job offer letter before you begin work. There's no portability rule like AC21 for H-1B holders, so plan for a two to four week gap between roles if you're switching without leaving the country for a new stamp.
