Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Mental Health Therapy
Get your Australian credentials evaluated early
U.S. employers and state licensing boards need to verify your Australian degree maps to a U.S. bachelor's or master's in counseling, psychology, or social work. A credential evaluation from a NACES-approved body prevents offer delays.
Target employers with behavioral health divisions
Hospital networks, community mental health centers, and federally qualified health centers file LCAs regularly for licensed therapists. These organizations understand specialty occupation requirements and are more likely to move quickly on E-3 sponsorship.
Clarify your licensure status before applying
Most clinical therapy roles require a state license, but requirements differ by state. Some employers will hire on a provisional license while you complete supervised hours, confirm this upfront so it doesn't stall your visa filing.
Negotiate LCA filing into your offer letter
The DOL-certified LCA must be in place before you can apply at the consulate. Ask your employer to confirm they'll file it within two weeks of your start date, and get that timeline written into your offer documentation.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the full process
Mental health therapy roles often involve non-standard job titles that need precise SOC code matching for the LCA. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles your LCA filing, visa paperwork, and consulate preparation so nothing gets miscoded.
Understand how telehealth roles affect your visa filing
Remote mental health therapy positions can complicate the LCA if your employer and your physical work location are in different states. USCIS requires the LCA to cover every worksite, so confirm your employer has addressed this before you file.

Find Mental Health Therapy JobsMental Health Therapy E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find mental health therapy jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter mental health therapy roles by E-3 visa sponsorship. Most general job boards don't let you filter by visa type, so you end up cold-applying to roles where the employer has no E-3 experience. Migrate Mate surfaces employers already set up for E-3 sponsorship, which cuts down on wasted applications significantly.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a mental health therapy role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, licensed counselor, psychotherapist, and clinical social worker roles qualify as specialty occupations because they require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific field, psychology, counseling, or social work. Generalist titles like 'behavioral health technician' or 'mental health aide' typically don't qualify because they don't require a degree in a specific discipline.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for mental health therapists?
The E-3 is significantly more practical for Australian therapists. There's no annual lottery, no cap risk, and you can apply at any time of year. The H-1B is capped at 85,000 annually and requires lottery selection before any filing begins. For mental health roles where hiring cycles don't align with April lottery windows, the E-3's flexibility is a real advantage.
Can I work as a mental health therapist on an E-3 while completing supervised hours for licensure?
Some states allow provisional or associate licensure while you accumulate supervised hours, and employers can sponsor you on an E-3 during that period if the role still meets specialty occupation requirements. You'll need to confirm the job description reflects graduate-level clinical work, not just supervision hours, so the LCA accurately reflects the position. State rules vary considerably, so verify the requirements with your target state's licensing board.
