Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Critical Care Physician
Verify your ECFMG certification before applying
U.S. hospitals require ECFMG certification for international medical graduates before they'll initiate any visa sponsorship. Confirm your certification is current and your USMLE steps are on file before you approach any employer.
Target academic medical centers and Level I trauma centers
Teaching hospitals and Level I trauma centers employ intensivists at high volume and have dedicated HR and legal teams familiar with E-3 sponsorship. Community hospitals often lack the infrastructure to file an LCA and may decline sponsorship outright.
Search for E-3 sponsorship roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Critical Care Physician roles by employers with active E-3 sponsorship history, saving you from cold outreach to hospitals that have never filed. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you receive an offer.
Align your offer letter to DOL prevailing wage requirements
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application certifying your offered salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your SOC code and geographic area. Ask HR to confirm this before you accept, not after, to avoid delays at the consulate.
Distinguish your fellowship subspecialty in the visa petition
Critical care medicine covers distinct subspecialties including surgical, medical, and neurological ICU roles. The LCA and DS-160 should reflect your specific fellowship training, since a mismatch between your credentials and the listed job duties is a common RFE trigger.
Negotiate E-3 renewal timing into your employment contract
The E-3 is issued in two-year increments with no cap on renewals, but each renewal requires a new LCA. Build renewal filing windows into your contract so your employer initiates the process at least 90 days before your visa expires.

Find Critical Care Physician JobsCritical Care Physician E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Critical Care Physician jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Critical Care Physician openings from employers with documented E-3 sponsorship history, so you're not spending time on hospitals that have never filed. Filter by role and location to find positions where the employer already understands the LCA requirement and is prepared to move quickly after an offer.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Critical Care Physician role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes. Critical care medicine requires a medical degree, residency, and fellowship training in an accredited program, satisfying the E-3 specialty occupation standard. The theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge is well established for intensivists, so this is rarely a point of contention in the petition.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for an Australian intensivist?
The H-1B is subject to an annual lottery with a roughly 25% selection rate, meaning you could wait years without a guaranteed slot. The E-3 has a 10,500 annual allocation that has never been exhausted, no lottery, and can be filed any time of year once you have a job offer and a certified LCA from the DOL.
Can I work across multiple ICU locations or hospital systems on a single E-3 visa?
Each employer and worksite requires a separate LCA tied to the specific location's prevailing wage. If you're employed by a hospital system with multiple campuses, each campus where you'll regularly work may need its own LCA. Contract or locum tenens arrangements across separate employer entities each require independent E-3 petitions.
