Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a PACU Nurse
Verify your NCLEX and credential equivalency early
Australian nursing degrees satisfy the E-3 visa specialty occupation requirement, but U.S. consular officers expect NCLEX-RN passage and a CGFNS evaluation confirming your qualifications meet state board standards before your employer files the LCA.
Target hospitals with established E-3 filing history
Large health systems and teaching hospitals in high-cost nursing markets like California, Texas, and New York have dedicated HR teams familiar with LCA filings. Smaller surgical centers often delay sponsorship because they've never run the DOL process before.
Clarify shift structure before your employer files the LCA
PACU roles are frequently structured as per-diem or part-time. Your LCA must reflect the actual hours and wage level offered. Mismatches between the certified LCA and your employment contract can trigger DOL compliance issues after you arrive.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork
Once you have a signed offer letter, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages DOL certification, DS-160 preparation, and consulate appointment coordination so your employer doesn't need prior sponsorship experience to complete the process correctly.
Confirm your state nursing license timeline with your employer
E-3 approval doesn't guarantee you can work immediately. You need an active RN license in the state where you'll practice. Some states take six to twelve weeks to process applications, so align this timeline with your consulate appointment date.
Address your intent to return during the consular interview
PACU nurses working in the U.S. on E-3 visas must maintain nonimmigrant intent at each renewal. Consular officers in Sydney and Melbourne regularly ask about ties to Australia, so prepare specific answers about property, family, or professional commitments back home.
E-3 Visa PACU Nurse: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find PACU Nurse jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter PACU Nurse roles by employers who have active E-3 or LCA filing history. Most general job boards don't surface sponsorship willingness, so you end up cold-applying to hospitals that have never run the DOL process. Migrate Mate surfaces employers already familiar with Australian nursing credentials and the E-3 requirements.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a PACU Nurse role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. PACU nursing qualifies as a specialty occupation because the role requires at minimum a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and an active RN license. Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year BSN. Your employer's LCA must reflect the specific PACU job duties and the corresponding prevailing wage level set by the DOL.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian PACU nurses?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens and has no lottery, no annual cap pressure, and no waiting period beyond consulate scheduling. H-1B visa selection runs around 25% for cap-subject petitions, and unsuccessful registrants can wait years for another chance. For Australian PACU nurses with a qualifying offer, the E-3 is a direct path that H-1B applicants from other countries don't have access to.
Can I change hospitals while working in the U.S. on an E-3 visa?
You can change employers, but your new hospital must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp if you travel internationally before the change takes effect. Unlike H-1B portability rules, the E-3 doesn't allow you to start with a new employer on an I-94 extension while the new petition is pending. Plan the transition timing carefully with your new employer before resigning.
