Align your credentials to U.S. specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to cloud architecture work. A three-year Australian bachelor's in computer science or information systems is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 visa purposes.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for employers who have filed LCAs for cloud or solutions architect roles. Prior LCA activity signals a hiring team that already understands the E-3 process.
Clarify the specialty occupation case before signing
If your offer letter uses a generic title like 'IT consultant,' ask the employer to specify cloud architecture responsibilities in writing. Vague job descriptions are a common E-3 denial trigger because they don't clearly establish a theoretical and practical degree requirement.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle LCA and visa paperwork
Once you have an offer, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from DOL LCA certification through to your consulate appointment, so your employer doesn't need prior visa sponsorship experience to get it right.
Negotiate employer fee responsibility before your start date
The E-3 has no lottery or cap, but government filing fees still apply. Confirm in writing whether your employer covers the LCA and DS-160 fees before you resign your current role, as this is a standard ask in U.S. tech hiring.
Book your consulate appointment as soon as LCA is certified
DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven business days. Schedule your Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth consulate appointment immediately after certification, since wait times at Australian consulates fluctuate and delays can push your start date.
E-3 Visa Cloud Solutions Architect: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Cloud Solutions Architect jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals seeking U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. You can search Cloud Solutions Architect positions filtered by employers who have sponsored E-3 or similar visas before, which cuts out the back-and-forth with companies that have never navigated the process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Cloud Solutions Architect role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as computer science, information systems, or software engineering. Roles that accept any degree regardless of field, or that list a degree as preferred rather than required, can fail the specialty occupation test and result in a denial.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for Cloud Solutions Architects?
The E-3 has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been reached, so there is no lottery and no random selection risk. H-1B visa registration enters you into a lottery with roughly a 25 percent selection rate. For cloud architecture roles, the E-3 specialty occupation standard is the same, but you can start the process year-round and predict your timeline far more reliably.
Can I change employers or cloud platforms while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA and you must obtain a new E-3 visa stamp before starting work for them, unless you are changing status inside the U.S. There is no portability rule like H-1B's AC21, so plan for a two-to-four week processing window when switching roles.
