Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
DOL requires your degree field to directly relate to solution architecture work. A computer science or engineering degree maps cleanly, but an unrelated bachelor's may need a credential evaluation showing equivalency to a U.S. four-year degree in a qualifying field.
Target employers with active LCA filing histories
Enterprise technology vendors, cloud consultancies, and systems integrators file LCAs regularly for solution architect roles. Searching DOL's Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data lets you identify which employers have certified these positions before.
Negotiate your offer letter before the LCA is filed
Your job title, duties, and worksite location on the offer letter feed directly into the LCA. Get the role defined as Principal Solution Architect with specific technical responsibilities before your employer submits to DOL, changes after certification require a new filing.
Clarify remote and multi-client work arrangements early
Solution architects frequently work across multiple client sites or fully remote. Each additional worksite may require a separate LCA posting obligation. Raise this with your employer before the LCA is certified so the filing covers your actual work arrangements from day one.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage your paperwork
From LCA preparation through consulate appointment, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles the complete filing sequence. This is especially useful for senior roles where the specialty occupation justification requires documented technical scope and degree-field alignment.
Book your consulate appointment immediately after LCA certification
DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven business days. Once certified, schedule your interview at a U.S. consulate in Australia without delay, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth process E-3 applications, and appointment availability varies significantly by location and season.
E-3 Visa Principal Solution Architect: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Principal Solution Architect jobs with E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles that include E-3 visa sponsorship. Rather than filtering through general job boards that don't distinguish E-3 from H-1B visa or other visa types, Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have filed LCAs for solution architect and related senior technical roles, so you're targeting companies already familiar with the E-3 process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Principal Solution Architect role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Principal Solution Architect positions consistently meet the specialty occupation standard because they require theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge in fields like computer science, systems engineering, or information technology, and a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field is a standard industry requirement for entry into the role.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Principal Solution Architect positions?
Both visas cover specialty occupations, but the E-3 has no annual lottery and no cap that creates multi-year uncertainty. H-1B selection is randomized and limited to 85,000 slots per fiscal year, meaning qualified candidates are routinely excluded. For Australian citizens, the E-3 allows a direct path to a consulate appointment once your employer's LCA is certified, without waiting for a registration draw.
Can I change employers or clients while working in the U.S. on an E-3?
Changing employers on the E-3 requires your new employer to file a fresh LCA and for you to obtain a new E-3 visa stamp, typically through a consulate appointment in Australia or at a U.S. consulate abroad. You can't transfer the E-3 the way an H-1B can port under AC21. Plan for a gap of several weeks between roles to complete the new filing cycle.
