Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Your Australian three-year bachelor's degree in computer science or IT is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 visa purposes. Get a credential evaluation letter ready before you start applying, some employers request it during the offer stage.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify cloud and tech employers who have filed LCAs for Cloud Support Engineer or related roles. Prior LCA filings signal an employer already understands the E-3 process.
Use Migrate Mate to search verified sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate filters Cloud Support Engineer roles by E-3 visa sponsorship history, so you're not applying blind. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you land an offer.
Frame cloud certifications as specialty occupation evidence
AWS, Azure, or GCP certifications strengthen your specialty occupation case at the consulate. Bring certification documentation to your interview alongside your degree, consular officers look for field-specific qualifications beyond the degree alone.
Clarify the LCA job site requirement with your employer
If your Cloud Support Engineer role involves remote work or multiple client sites, your employer's LCA must list the correct worksite locations. Mismatched worksites are a common compliance issue, confirm this with your employer's HR team before the LCA is filed with DOL.
Request the DS-160 and consulate prep timeline upfront
Once your LCA is certified, ask your employer for a clear timeline to your consulate appointment. Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth have different wait times, booking early matters, especially if you're starting a role on a fixed date.
E-3 Visa Cloud Support Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Cloud Support Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Cloud Support Engineer roles from employers with E-3 sponsorship history, so you're not sorting through listings where sponsorship is unclear or absent. Filtering by visa type at the start saves significant time and avoids pursuing employers who won't support the E-3 process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Cloud Support Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, information technology, or systems engineering. Job postings that list a degree as 'preferred' rather than 'required' can create complications at the consulate, so confirm the job description specifies a degree as a minimum requirement before proceeding with the E-3 application.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Cloud Support Engineers?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so you can apply and get approved any time of year rather than waiting for an April lottery with roughly 25% selection odds. The process is also faster: E-3 applicants go directly to a consular interview rather than waiting on USCIS petition processing. The only limitation is that the E-3 is exclusively available to Australian citizens.
Can my employer file the LCA if they have no prior E-3 experience?
Yes, any U.S. employer can file an LCA with the DOL regardless of prior E-3 history. The LCA certifies that the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for the role and location. Many employers are familiar with LCA filings through H-1B visa experience, and the E-3 LCA process follows the same DOL FLAG portal procedure, which reduces friction for first-time E-3 sponsors.
