Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Construction Project Engineer
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation requirements
U.S. consular officers assess whether your Australian engineering degree directly relates to the project engineer role. A three-year Bachelor of Engineering is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree, but bring your academic transcripts and any credential evaluation to your interview.
Target contractors with federal and infrastructure project portfolios
General contractors and construction management firms working on federally funded infrastructure, transit, or defence projects are most familiar with E-3 sponsorship. Their HR and legal teams have existing processes for LCA filing, which reduces delays from your offer to your visa application.
Search E-3 sponsorship roles using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find Construction Project Engineer roles from employers with active E-3 and H-1B filing histories. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, so you're not relying on your employer to coordinate everything independently.
Get your professional registrations in order early
If you hold Engineers Australia membership or a graduate engineer status, document it before you start applying. U.S. employers in states requiring a licensed Professional Engineer on-site will ask about your path to licensure, and showing progress toward credentials strengthens your specialty occupation case.
Ask employers about LCA timing before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before you can apply for your E-3 visa. Standard DOL processing takes around seven business days. Confirm your employer understands this step and has handled it before, so your start date accounts for the filing window.
Prepare a role-specific specialty occupation letter
Consular officers sometimes probe whether a project engineer role genuinely requires a degree rather than trade experience. Ask your employer to provide a support letter that connects specific duties, such as structural analysis, contract administration, or schedule management, to engineering degree requirements rather than describing general site oversight.

Find Construction Project Engineer JobsConstruction Project Engineer E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Construction Project Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search Construction Project Engineer roles from employers with a track record of E-3 and work visa sponsorship. Filtering by sponsorship history saves time compared to applying broadly and discovering late in the process that an employer has no experience with the E-3 LCA filing requirements.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Construction Project Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, construction project engineering qualifies as a specialty occupation when the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering. Roles that primarily involve site supervision without requiring degree-level technical analysis can face more scrutiny, so your job description should clearly reflect engineering duties like design review, scope management, and technical reporting.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Construction Project Engineers?
The E-3 is available only to Australian nationals but has no annual cap and no lottery, so you can apply at any point in the year once you have a job offer. The H-1B has an 85,000-slot annual cap and a randomised lottery, meaning most applicants wait a year or more even with a qualifying offer. For Australian engineers, the E-3 is a substantially more predictable path.
Can I change employers or projects on an E-3 as a Construction Project Engineer?
You can change employers, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need to apply for a new E-3 visa, typically at an Australian consulate. If you're already in the U.S., you may need to travel back to Australia for the consular interview. Short-term project transitions within the same employer don't require a new visa application.
