Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Database Administrator
Frame your credentials for U.S. equivalency
An Australian three-year bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 specialty occupation purposes. Gather your official transcripts before you start applying.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for employers who have previously filed LCAs for Database Administrator roles. Past LCA filings signal that the employer understands the process and won't treat your sponsorship request as unfamiliar territory.
Clarify the specialty occupation case before signing
E-3 approval depends on the role meeting the specialty occupation definition, not just the job title. If your offer letter describes generalist IT duties alongside database work, ask the employer to tighten the job description so the degree requirement is unambiguous before the LCA is filed.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the paperwork
Once you have a written offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork from start to consulate appointment. This avoids the common delays that come from employers filing an LCA for the first time without guidance.
Confirm prevailing wage compliance with your offer
The DOL requires your employer to pay the prevailing wage for Database Administrators in your work location before it will certify the LCA. Cross-check your offered salary against the DOL's prevailing wage data for your specific metro area to avoid a certification rejection.
Understand your status during employer transitions
The E-3 is employer-specific, so if you change roles or companies you need a new LCA and a new visa stamp. You don't have a grace period that carries over, so time the transition carefully and confirm your new employer's LCA is certified before you stop work.

Find Database Administrator JobsDatabase Administrator E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Database Administrator jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Database Administrator roles by employers who sponsor the E-3 visa. Generic job boards don't filter by visa type, so you end up cold-pitching sponsorship to employers unfamiliar with the process. Migrate Mate surfaces roles where E-3 sponsorship is already part of the hiring conversation, which saves significant time in your search.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Database Administrator role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a directly related field. The key risk is a broadly written job description that lists database work alongside general IT support duties. USCIS or the consular officer may question whether a specific degree is truly required, so the offer letter and LCA should clearly reflect the technical depth of the role.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Database Administrators?
The E-3 has two decisive advantages for Australian nationals: there's no annual lottery and no numerical cap, so you can apply any time of year and start work as soon as your visa is issued. The H-1B requires winning a lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate, and the earliest start date is October 1. For a Database Administrator with a confirmed offer, the E-3 is a straight application with no randomness involved.
Can I switch employers on the E-3 if I receive a better Database Administrator offer?
You can change employers, but the E-3 doesn't transfer automatically. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL, and you'll need a new visa stamp before you can start work under the new sponsorship. Unlike the H-1B, there's no portability provision that lets you begin with a new employer on the strength of a pending petition. Plan the handover carefully to avoid a gap in authorised work status.
