Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Department Manager
Align your credentials to specialty occupation
Your Australian degree must correspond directly to the Department Manager role, not just management broadly. A degree in business administration, operations, or a field-specific discipline (retail, logistics, healthcare) strengthens the specialty occupation argument for your LCA filing.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's public LCA disclosure data to identify U.S. companies that have previously certified Labor Condition Applications for management roles. Employers already familiar with the process move faster and rarely push back on E-3 visa sponsorship.
Address dual intent directly with your employer
The E-3 is a nonimmigrant visa, so your employer's legal team may flag long-term immigration plans. Clarify upfront that E-3 renewals are indefinite and no immigrant intent is required, which removes a common objection before it delays your offer.
Get your LCA filed before your start date
DOL must certify the LCA before you can attend your consulate appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so certification doesn't bottleneck your onboarding timeline with a new employer.
Verify your degree equivalency before applying
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 purposes, but some consular officers request a credential evaluation. Obtain a NACES-member evaluation letter before your interview if your degree format is non-standard.
Negotiate the prevailing wage tier into your offer
Your offer letter must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Ask your employer to confirm the wage level before signing, because a Level I wage on a senior Department Manager role can trigger an LCA audit or consular scrutiny.
E-3 Visa Department Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Department Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. You can filter Department Manager positions by industry and location and see which employers have a history of sponsoring Australian nationals. Generic job boards don't surface E-3-specific sponsorship data, so a targeted search saves significant time.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Department Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is defined. A Department Manager position qualifies when the employer can demonstrate the job normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as business administration, supply chain, or a discipline tied to the department's function. Broad general management roles without a degree-specific requirement are harder to support, so the job description wording matters considerably.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Department Manager roles?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so Australian nationals can apply year-round without the uncertainty that comes with H-1B visa registration. H-1B petitions also require USCIS approval before the employee starts, while E-3 holders can often begin work after a consulate appointment alone. For management roles where the employer wants to move quickly, the E-3 is a materially faster path.
Can I change employers or departments while on an E-3?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA and you need a new visa stamp or a change of status before you start working for them. Moving to a different department within the same company is generally fine if the role still qualifies as a specialty occupation at the same prevailing wage level. Crossing into a materially different job title or function requires reassessing the LCA.
