E-3 Visa Developer Relations Jobs
Developer Relations roles qualify for E-3 visa sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field like computer science, engineering, or communications. The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so Australian professionals can pursue these roles without the H-1B registration window constraining their timeline.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Developer Relations
Align your degree to the role
DevRel postings often list software engineering or communications backgrounds interchangeably. Your Australian degree needs to match the specific field the employer specifies, not just the function. A three-year Australian bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 purposes.
Target employers with active LCA filings
Companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for technical or engineering roles before are already familiar with the E-3 process. Search the DOL's public disclosure data to confirm a company has sponsored similar roles, not just DevRel titles specifically.
Clarify sponsorship before the offer stage
DevRel sits between engineering and marketing, and hiring managers sometimes assume it doesn't qualify for visa sponsorship. Raise the E-3 early in conversations: it requires no lottery, costs the employer far less than H-1B, and only needs a certified LCA before your consulate appointment.
Get your portfolio into a U.S.-readable format
DevRel hiring decisions hinge on public-facing work: talks, documentation contributions, SDKs, and community posts. Curate these before applying so interviewers can verify your specialty occupation claim independently, which also supports the USCIS specialty occupation standard for your visa application.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and paperwork
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This covers DOL certification, DS-160 preparation, and consulate appointment readiness so you and your employer aren't coordinating the process from scratch.
Confirm your role title before the LCA is filed
The job title on your LCA must match what the employer submits to DOL for prevailing wage purposes. DevRel titles vary widely across companies. Confirm the exact title before filing because amending an LCA after submission adds delays to your consulate timeline.

Find Developer Relations JobsDeveloper Relations E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Developer Relations jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. Rather than filtering through general job boards that don't surface visa sponsorship status, Migrate Mate focuses on employers familiar with the E-3 process. Developer Relations roles at tech companies and developer-focused platforms are among the roles commonly listed.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Developer Relations role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as computer science, software engineering, or communications. Roles where any degree suffices regardless of field can fail the specialty occupation test. Employers who specify a technical or communications background in the job description are in a stronger position for USCIS scrutiny.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Developer Relations positions?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so you can apply any time of year once you have an offer. The H-1B requires registration in March with a roughly 25% selection rate for most applicants, and you'd wait until October 1 to start work. For DevRel roles where hiring is ongoing rather than seasonal, the E-3 removes the timing risk entirely.
Can I change companies on an E-3 while working in Developer Relations?
Yes, but you need a new LCA certified by DOL and a new visa stamp from a U.S. consulate or embassy if yours has expired. Unlike H-1B portability, the E-3 doesn't have an explicit portability provision, so you'll want to time your transition carefully to avoid a gap in authorized status. Many DevRel professionals complete a fresh consulate appointment when switching employers.
