Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Editor
Frame your Australian degree for U.S. editors
A three-year Australian bachelor's in journalism, communications, or English is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree. Get a credential evaluation letter ready before applications, so employers don't stall on degree equivalency questions.
Target employers with dedicated editorial departments
Publishing houses, digital media companies, and content agencies are more likely to have HR teams familiar with professional visa sponsorship than startups where you'd be the first international hire navigating the process.
Clarify the specialty occupation requirement early
Not every editor job title qualifies. The role must require a relevant bachelor's degree as a standard entry requirement. If a job posting says 'degree preferred,' ask the hiring manager whether it's truly required, as that distinction determines E-3 eligibility.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service after your offer
Once you have a signed offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork. The LCA must be DOL-certified before your consulate appointment, and getting the sequence right matters.
Understand your employer's LCA obligations
Your employer must post the certified LCA at the worksite for ten business days. For remote editorial roles, DOL rules require posting at your actual work location, which can catch distributed teams off guard if they haven't sponsored E-3 workers before.
Plan your consulate appointment around editorial hiring cycles
Many publishing and media employers hire seasonally. Schedule your visa appointment as soon as the LCA is certified, so you're not waiting on a consulate slot when an employer needs you to start within weeks of the offer.

Find Editor JobsEditor E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Editor jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search, since it filters specifically for E-3-eligible roles and employers with sponsorship history. When you apply, be upfront that you need E-3 sponsorship. Most editorial employers unfamiliar with the visa are willing to proceed once they understand there's no lottery and no cap waiting period.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Editor role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is defined. Editor positions qualify when the employer requires a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field as a standard hiring condition. Roles that accept any degree or substitute years of experience without a degree requirement are harder to support. Ask employers whether their job description is written to require a specific degree before you progress to offer stage.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for an Editor role?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian nationals and has no lottery, no annual cap backlog, and no waiting period. H-1B applicants in the same editorial role must win a randomized lottery with selection odds well below 50 percent, then wait until October 1 for their status to begin. For Australian editors, the E-3 is a direct path that bypasses the uncertainty entirely, with two-year renewable validity.
Can I change editorial employers while on an E-3?
Yes, but the process starts fresh with each new employer. Your new employer files a new LCA with DOL, and you typically need a new visa stamp if your current stamp reflects your previous employer's details. You can begin work for the new employer once the new LCA is certified and a new E-3 petition is approved, so overlap your job search timeline accordingly to avoid a gap.
