We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the best possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Engineers at Amazon work to design resilient, cost effective electrical distribution systems. As engineers at Amazon we are responsible for achieving a world class uptime for our customers. We justify and communicate the technical decisions we make to Sr. Management and work hard to drive continuous advancements and improvements with our designs. As an engineer at Amazon you have the ability to drive change and define/design the systems our customers rely on.
Amazon offers a fast paced, fun, and exciting work environment. We continue to grow at exponential rates and are looking for individuals that can support our speed to market, enjoy a challenge, and have a desire for professional growth and continuous learning experiences. Amazon’s work environment is unique in every aspect and offers an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate.
If you are a creative, smart and driven individual that enjoys working with complex problems we want YOU! At Amazon you will be responsible for working on multi-million dollar designs that support our array of businesses and wide variety of customers. Great ideas are encouraged and supported. Ingenuity is the main mechanism which supports our focus on quality, speed, and cost.
We are looking for engineers with hands on electrical design experience. If you can design an electrical system, have an understanding of the critical equipment needs for a data center, and understand the constructability of varying designs you may be a good fit. As we grow we are structuring our team to own more of our engineering in house. Engineers will be responsible for taking designs from concept to the permit and construction document set. You must be capable of defining critical equipment specifications and approving equipment submittals. Engineers will directly support construction and be a part of the process from site selection review through commissioning and ultimately turnover. You will be relied on as a subject matter expert in the electrical engineering field. At Amazon we highly support continued learning opportunities and focus on continued employee development.
At Amazon team work is absolutely necessary for us to accomplish our goals. You must be able to work within a team and depend on others to accomplish the required work. As an electrical engineer at Amazon you will be working with other internal groups as well as external groups including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
Amazon has a global presence. As this position is based out of Virginia, travel to our head office in Seattle will be required. Travel should be up to 20% of your time, majority throughout the Virginia-based data centers and in-person collaboration efforts not in your assigned office location. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel will be necessary. Support could consist of working on international teams and could require developing schematic and design document packages. An understanding of international electrical design requirements is helpful but not necessary.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Electrical Design Technician
Align your credentials to U.S. specialty occupation standards
Your Australian three-year electrical engineering degree satisfies the E-3 visa bachelor's equivalency requirement, but make sure your transcript and any professional registration with Engineers Australia are translated and ready to present when your employer files the Labor Condition Application.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify companies that have previously filed LCAs for Electrical Design Technician or related electrical engineering titles. Prior LCA activity signals an employer already understands the E-3 sponsorship process.
Clarify the specialty occupation case before accepting an offer
If the job posting says a degree is preferred rather than required, the role may not meet USCIS's specialty occupation definition. Confirm with the hiring manager that a bachelor's in electrical engineering or electronics is a stated requirement before committing to the E-3 path.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and visa paperwork
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA submission, DS-160 preparation, and consulate appointment coordination. This keeps the employer's administrative burden low and reduces the chance of documentation errors that delay approval.
Book your consulate appointment as soon as the LCA is certified
DOL certifies most LCAs within seven business days. Schedule your Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth interview immediately after certification. Appointment slots at Australian consulates can fill weeks out, and delays here extend your start date even when the paperwork is complete.
Negotiate a start date that accounts for consulate processing time
Most Australian consulates return E-3 visa stamps within two to five business days post-interview, but administrative processing can extend this. Build at least three to four weeks of buffer between your offer acceptance and your proposed U.S. start date to avoid rescheduling conflicts.
E-3 Visa Electrical Design Technician: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Electrical Design Technician jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended way to search, as it filters roles specifically by E-3 sponsorship eligibility and employer filing history. When reviewing listings, prioritize job descriptions that explicitly require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline, since that degree requirement is what establishes specialty occupation status for your E-3 application.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Electrical Design Technician role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the employer's job description requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics, or a directly related field as a minimum condition of employment. Roles where the degree is listed as preferred rather than required can be harder to support. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation on the specific duties and the theoretical and practical application of electrical engineering knowledge those duties demand.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Electrical Design Technician roles?
The E-3 is significantly more accessible for Australians. There is no lottery, no annual cap constraint to worry about, and the 10,500 annual allocation has never been exhausted. The H-1B visa requires surviving a random lottery draw with roughly a one-in-four selection rate. Both visas require specialty occupation status and a certified LCA, so the underlying employer documentation process is similar.
Can I change employers while working in the U.S. on an E-3 as an Electrical Design Technician?
Yes, but the process restarts with the new employer. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you will need a new E-3 visa stamp before you can begin work for them. You cannot transfer an E-3 the way an H-1B can be ported. Plan for a gap of several weeks between roles to allow time for LCA certification and consulate scheduling.
