Frame your degree for specialty occupation
Your Australian bachelor's degree must map directly to the technical discipline the role requires. A three-year Australian degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree, but document that equivalency with a credential evaluation before interviews begin.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data for companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for sales engineer or solutions engineer roles. Prior LCA activity signals the employer already understands the E-3 visa process and won't treat your sponsorship request as a novel legal problem.
Use Migrate Mate to run your E-3 end-to-end
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork. The LCA must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment, so starting the filing process immediately after signing is essential.
Clarify pre-sales versus post-sales scope in offer letters
E-3 specialty occupation approval depends on the role's degree requirement being explicit and consistent. If your offer letter describes a hybrid pre-sales and customer success function, ask HR to define the primary technical engineering duties clearly so the LCA reflects a defensible specialty occupation classification.
Address dual intent directly with hiring managers
The E-3 is a nonimmigrant visa that does not formally allow dual intent. If a hiring manager asks about your long-term U.S. plans during the offer stage, explain the E-3's renewable structure and focus the conversation on your immediate contribution rather than permanent residency timelines.
Book your consulate appointment before your current status lapses
If you're changing employers or entering from Australia, your consulate appointment at Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth must be scheduled after LCA certification is complete. Processing at Australian consulates varies by location and season, so don't wait until your start date is imminent to schedule.
E-3 Visa Enterprise Sales Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Enterprise Sales Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for E-3 visa sponsorship roles in the U.S. You can filter Enterprise Sales Engineer positions by companies with active E-3 and LCA filing history, which removes the guesswork of approaching employers who have never sponsored an Australian before.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Enterprise Sales Engineer role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as engineering, computer science, or information systems. Roles that accept any degree or no degree at all won't qualify. The offer letter and LCA must both reflect a degree requirement tied to the specific technical discipline the position demands.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Enterprise Sales Engineers?
The E-3 has a 10,500-slot annual allocation that has never been exhausted, so there's no lottery and no random selection. H-1B visa requires entering a lottery with roughly a one-in-four chance of selection in recent years. For an Australian professional with a qualifying offer, the E-3 provides a direct, predictable path that the H-1B can't match.
Can I change employers on an E-3 while working as an Enterprise Sales Engineer?
Yes, but you can't port the E-3 the way an H-1B holder can under portability rules. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL, and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before re-entering the U.S. or, in some cases, a change of status if you're already in the country. Plan for at least a few weeks of processing time between roles.
