Frame your degree for specialty occupation
Sales Representative roles must meet the DOL's specialty occupation standard. A degree in business, marketing, or a field directly tied to your target industry strengthens that case far more than a general arts or unrelated degree.
Target industries with LCA filing patterns
Tech, pharmaceutical, and enterprise software companies file LCAs for sales roles far more consistently than retail or consumer goods firms. Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data to identify which industries actively sponsor E-3 visa sales positions.
Address sponsorship early in interviews
Many U.S. sales hiring managers don't know the E-3 exists. Explain that you're Australian, there's no lottery, and the employer's main obligation is filing an LCA with DOL. Removing uncertainty from the conversation accelerates hiring decisions.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service after your offer
Once you have a signed offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork. Errors in the LCA prevailing wage section are the most common reason sales sponsorships stall before the consulate appointment.
Search for E-3 sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for E-3 visa sponsorship, showing Sales Representative roles at employers who have sponsored Australian workers before. That's a faster starting point than searching broadly and vetting each employer manually.
Align your resume to specialty occupation criteria
Your resume should connect your degree field directly to the sales role's responsibilities. A hiring manager reviewing an E-3 sponsorship request will check that your background meets USCIS specialty occupation requirements, not just that you can sell.
E-3 Visa Sales Representative: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Sales Representative jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Sales Representative roles from employers who sponsor E-3 visas, so you're not cold-applying and hoping for sponsorship. The platform filters by visa type, which means every result is already relevant to your situation as an Australian professional seeking U.S. sales roles.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Sales Representative role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is defined. A general sales job where any background is accepted won't qualify. But a Sales Representative role requiring a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a field tied to the product being sold can meet the specialty occupation standard. The job description and your degree must align for USCIS to accept the classification.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Sales Representative roles?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no cap backlog, so your employer can sponsor you at any point in the year. The H-1B visa runs on an April lottery with an October 1 start date, meaning a sales role that needs filling in January can't use the H-1B at all. For Australian nationals, the E-3 is the faster and more predictable path.
What does my employer actually need to do to sponsor my E-3?
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL certifying that your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for the role and location. Once the LCA is certified, you take that document to your consulate interview in Australia. The employer doesn't file a petition with USCIS for the E-3, which makes it significantly lighter on their HR and legal resources than an H-1B.
