Match your degree to the role title
U.S. consular officers scrutinize the degree-to-job connection closely for manufacturing roles. A mechanical engineering degree supports a process engineer title; a generic business degree rarely supports a production manager application. Make sure your offer letter names a role your qualification directly covers.
Target manufacturers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to find manufacturers that have filed LCAs before. Companies already familiar with the LCA certification process move faster and rarely stall your offer over paperwork unfamiliarity.
Request a specialty occupation job description early
Ask your prospective employer to draft the offer letter before the LCA is filed, confirming the role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Vague descriptions like 'manufacturing generalist' or 'operations coordinator' create consular problems that a precise job description prevents.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and visa paperwork
The LCA must be certified by the DOL before your consular appointment can proceed. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, so your employer doesn't need prior E-3 visa experience to get this right.
Confirm your three-year Australian degree is documented correctly
Australian bachelor's degrees are three years, not four. U.S. consular officers accept them as equivalent, but your transcripts must show full-time study in the relevant technical discipline. A credential evaluation from a NACES-member evaluator removes any ambiguity at the interview.
Clarify worksite details before your LCA is filed
Manufacturing roles often involve multiple plant locations or third-party production sites. The DOL requires the LCA to list the primary worksite address. If your role covers multiple facilities, confirm the primary location with your employer before the LCA is submitted to avoid a refiling delay.
E-3 Visa Manufacturing: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find manufacturing jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically to connect Australian professionals with U.S. employers who sponsor the E-3 visa. Search by job title and location to find manufacturing roles where sponsorship is confirmed. This filters out employers unfamiliar with the E-3 and shortens the time from application to offer.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Do all manufacturing roles qualify as E-3 specialty occupations?
No. The E-3 requires the position to normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Roles like process engineer, industrial engineer, quality engineer, and manufacturing engineer typically qualify. Production operator and line supervisor roles generally don't, unless the employer can demonstrate that a specific degree is standard for that position at their company.
Is the E-3 visa easier to get than the H-1B for manufacturing jobs?
Yes, in a practical sense. The H-1B has an annual lottery with a roughly 25% selection rate for most applicants, meaning you can apply and still not be selected. The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap that fills up in practice. If your role qualifies and your credentials match, there's no random selection process standing between you and the visa.
Can I change manufacturing employers after I have an E-3 visa?
Yes, but you need a new LCA and a new E-3 visa tied to the new employer before you start working. The E-3 is employer-specific, so your current visa doesn't transfer. You'll need to go through the consular process again, which typically means a new DS-160, a new interview, and a new visa stamp before your start date.
