Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Mental Health Therapist
Verify your Australian credentials transfer cleanly
U.S. licensing boards treat Australian three-year bachelor's degrees as equivalent to a four-year U.S. degree for E-3 purposes, but individual state therapy licensure requirements vary. Check your target state's board before applying so credential gaps don't stall your offer.
Target employers with behavioral health billing infrastructure
Community mental health centers, hospital systems, and federally qualified health centers file LCAs regularly and understand sponsored clinician hiring. Private solo practices rarely have the HR capacity to manage E-3 paperwork, so focus your search on larger clinical organizations.
Flag your licensure status early in applications
Many U.S. mental health roles require state licensure before your start date, which can take months to obtain from Australia. Tell hiring managers upfront whether you hold a relevant Australian registration so they can build a realistic onboarding timeline around your E-3 filing.
Use Migrate Mate to handle your LCA and filing
The DOL Labor Condition Application must be certified before your consulate appointment can proceed. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage the LCA submission, prevailing wage compliance, and visa paperwork so you can focus on interview preparation instead of government portals.
Ask employers about their prevailing wage documentation process
DOL requires your employer to certify they'll pay the prevailing wage for your role and metro area. Confirm they know this before you accept an offer, since underprepared employers sometimes withdraw after discovering the LCA requirement mid-process.
Time your consulate appointment around your start date
E-3 visa interviews at Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth can have varying wait times depending on the time of year. Book your appointment as soon as your LCA is certified so you have enough runway before your agreed employment start date.

Find Mental Health Therapist JobsMental Health Therapist E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Mental Health Therapist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for E-3 visa sponsorship roles. It filters job listings by employers who understand and support the E-3 process, so you're not cold-applying to organizations that have never sponsored a visa. Search by role, location, and specialty to find mental health positions where sponsorship is already on the table.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Mental Health Therapist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, Mental Health Therapist positions qualify when the role requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher in psychology, counseling, clinical social work, or a directly related field. Generalist roles where any degree is acceptable can face scrutiny, so confirm the job description explicitly states a relevant degree requirement before your employer files the LCA with DOL.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian mental health therapists?
The E-3 is significantly more practical for Australian therapists than the H-1B. There's no annual lottery, so you aren't relying on a roughly one-in-four selection chance. The E-3 renews in two-year increments indefinitely, and the 10,500 annual allocation has never been exhausted, meaning qualified applicants can secure a visa any time of year without waiting for a registration window.
Can I switch mental health employers while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before or at your next entry into the U.S. Unlike the H-1B, there's no formal portability provision that lets you start work on a pending petition. Plan for a consulate appointment gap between roles if you're changing employers while already in the U.S.
