Frame your credential for U.S. employers
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 visa specialty occupation purposes. Get a credential evaluation letter from a NACES-member evaluator before you start applying so employers don't stall on that question.
Target companies with existing E-3 hiring infrastructure
Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for certified Labor Condition Applications filed under E-3. Employers who've filed LCAs for administrative roles before already understand the process, which removes a common delay at the offer stage.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers fast
Migrate Mate surfaces Office Secretary roles posted by U.S. employers open to E-3 sponsorship, so you're not filtering through listings that exclude visa candidates. Start your search there to reach decision-ready hiring managers.
Clarify the specialty occupation case with your employer
Office Secretary roles face more scrutiny than technical positions because USCIS evaluates whether the job genuinely requires a degree. Prepare a clear written summary tying your specific duties to your field of study before the LCA is filed.
Confirm your employer will file the LCA before accepting
The LCA must be certified by DOL before you can apply at the consulate. Ask directly in writing whether the employer will file it and who handles it internally, so there are no surprises after you've accepted the offer.
Delegate the end-to-end filing to professionals
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork through to consulate appointment. Administrative roles have tighter specialty occupation documentation requirements, and professional preparation reduces the risk of an RFE or denial.
E-3 Visa Office Secretary: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Office Secretary jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended starting point. It filters roles by employers who are open to E-3 sponsorship, so you're not wading through listings that exclude visa candidates. Because Office Secretary positions require a documented specialty occupation case, targeting employers already familiar with E-3 requirements significantly speeds up the offer-to-filing process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Office Secretary role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It can, but it requires careful documentation. USCIS looks for evidence that the role normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as business administration or communications, and that your duties align with that degree. Generic administrative job descriptions without degree requirements can trigger additional scrutiny or an RFE during the process.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian Office Secretary applicants?
The E-3 is significantly more practical for this role. There's no lottery, no annual cap backlog, and you can apply year-round. H-1B visa selection rates mean most applicants wait years for a slot. For an Office Secretary with Australian citizenship, the E-3 is the direct path, provided the role meets the specialty occupation standard.
Can I change employers after starting work on an E-3 as an Office Secretary?
Yes, but you can't port your current E-3 to a new employer the way some other visa categories allow transfers. Each new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 stamp before or at the point of starting the new role. Plan for a gap of several weeks between offer acceptance and your start date.
