E-3 Visa Physician Jobs
Physician roles qualify as E-3 specialty occupations when the position requires a medical degree and U.S. licensure, making them strong candidates for E-3 visa sponsorship. Australian doctors pursuing U.S. hospital or clinic roles benefit from no lottery and indefinite two-year renewals tied to continued employment.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Physician
Verify your medical credentials transfer correctly
ECFMG certification is a prerequisite for most U.S. physician roles and must be in hand before an employer files your LCA. Start this process early, USMLE completion and credential verification typically run longer than the E-3 visa filing itself.
Target hospital systems with active E-3 history
Large academic medical centers and multi-state health systems file LCAs regularly and have established immigration workflows. Search DOL's Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data by SOC code to identify employers who have certified E-3 LCAs for physician roles specifically.
Search Migrate Mate to find physician roles with E-3 sponsorship
Migrate Mate filters physician jobs by employers with documented E-3 and LCA filing history, so you're not cold-applying to roles where sponsorship is uncertain. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you have an offer.
Clarify your specialty's licensure timeline with the employer
State medical licenses can take three to six months to process, and some employers won't initiate LCA filing until your license is confirmed. Align your credentialing timeline with HR before accepting an offer so your start date is realistic.
Understand how J-1 waiver status affects your E-3 eligibility
If you completed a U.S. residency or fellowship on a J-1 visa, a two-year home residency requirement may apply before you can switch to E-3 status. Confirm your J-1 waiver outcome or exemption with USCIS before accepting any physician offer.
Negotiate who handles the LCA before signing your contract
Some smaller practices and rural health employers are unfamiliar with E-3 LCA obligations under DOL rules. Establish in writing that the employer will cover LCA filing and that the prevailing wage requirement will be met before your contract is finalized.
E-3 Visa Physician: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find physician jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces physician roles at employers with verified E-3 and LCA filing history, filtering out postings where sponsorship is ambiguous or unlikely. Academic medical centers, teaching hospitals, and large integrated health systems are the most active E-3 sponsors for physician roles, and Migrate Mate helps you target them directly.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a physician role qualify as a specialty occupation under E-3?
Yes. Physician positions qualify as specialty occupations because they theoretically require at minimum a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree and active U.S. state licensure. The role must specifically require a medical degree, not simply prefer one. General practice, hospitalist, and specialist roles at accredited institutions all typically satisfy the specialty occupation standard under the E-3 framework.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Australian physicians?
The E-3 is exclusively available to Australian nationals and has no annual lottery, meaning your employer can file at any point and you can start work after consular approval, typically within weeks. The H-1B visa has an annual cap and requires lottery selection, which adds months of uncertainty. For Australian doctors, the E-3 is a faster and more predictable path to U.S. practice.
Can I change hospital employers while on an E-3 as a physician?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp or a change of employer before you begin work. There is no portability provision equivalent to H-1B's AC21 rule, so you cannot rely on a pending petition to continue working during the transition. Plan for a gap between roles or arrange for overlap with USCIS guidance.
