Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Psychiatric Nurse
Verify your NCLEX and credential equivalency early
Australian nursing degrees are generally accepted for E-3 purposes, but U.S. employers need to see NCLEX-RN passage and state licensure before they'll file an LCA. Sort your licensing board application before targeting roles.
Target health systems with dedicated international hiring pipelines
Large hospital networks and VA facilities regularly sponsor E-3 nurses because they have in-house HR teams familiar with LCA filing. Smaller private practices rarely do, so focus your search on health systems with structured onboarding programs.
Search for E-3 sponsorship roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters psychiatric nurse roles by E-3 sponsorship history, so you're not wasting applications on employers who've never filed an LCA. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you have an offer.
Confirm your job offer specifies a specialty occupation
The E-3 requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Make sure your offer letter describes duties tied to psychiatric nursing specifically, not general nursing tasks that a non-degree holder could perform, to avoid an RFE at the consulate.
Ask your employer to file the LCA before your interview date
DOL must certify the LCA before you can attend your consular interview. Employers sometimes underestimate this sequencing requirement. Give your HR contact a written timeline showing that LCA certification must precede the DS-160 submission.
Prepare psychiatric-specific documentation for the consular interview
Consular officers will want evidence linking your degree and experience to the psychiatric nursing role. Bring your NCLEX results, state license, clinical placement records, and any specialized certifications in areas like mental health assessment or crisis intervention.

Find Psychiatric Nurse JobsPsychiatric Nurse E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Psychiatric Nurse jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for E-3 sponsorship roles in the U.S. It filters listings by visa sponsorship history, so you can see which employers have actually filed LCAs for psychiatric nurses before. That's a far more reliable signal than a generic job board listing that says 'visa sponsorship available.'
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000â$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a psychiatric nursing role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree in nursing as a minimum entry requirement and involves duties specific to psychiatric or mental health nursing. Roles that accept associate degree nurses or permit any RN to fill the position without a specialty background can face additional scrutiny at the consulate, so your offer letter should clearly reflect the degree requirement.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian psychiatric nurses?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has no annual lottery, which means you can apply any time of year as long as you have a qualifying job offer and a certified LCA. The H-1B, by contrast, is subject to an annual lottery with a roughly 25% selection rate. For Australian nurses, the E-3 is a far more predictable path with no cap-related delays.
Can I transfer my E-3 if I move to a different psychiatric nursing role?
Yes, but you'll need a new LCA certified by DOL and a new visa stamp if you've left the U.S. or if your employer changes materially. If you're already in the U.S., your new employer can file a new LCA and you can start working once it's certified, provided your current E-3 status remains valid throughout the transition.
