E-3 Visa Pilot Jobs
Pilot roles qualify for E-3 visa sponsorship when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent in aviation, aeronautical science, or a related field. Australian pilots can secure two-year renewable E-3 status with a U.S. airline or charter operator, bypassing the H-1B lottery entirely.

Verify your credentials meet specialty occupation
The E-3 visa requires your pilot role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Confirm your ATP certificate, bachelor's degree in aviation or aeronautical science, and any ICAO equivalency documentation are ready before approaching U.S. carriers.
Target Part 121 carriers with international hiring
Regional and major airlines operating under FAA Part 121 rules regularly sponsor foreign pilots. Focus on carriers actively recruiting internationally, since they already have HR infrastructure familiar with LCA filing and DOL wage obligations.
Convert your CASA licence before the visa interview
U.S. airlines will require an FAA ATP certificate before you start. The FAA accepts foreign pilot credentials under ICAO standards, but the validation process takes time. Start the conversion while your E-3 sponsorship is being arranged.
Clarify type rating requirements during offer negotiation
Some employers sponsor E-3 workers only after a specific aircraft type rating is confirmed. Nail down which aircraft you'll be rated on and whether the employer covers type rating training costs before the LCA is filed with DOL.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and paperwork
Once you have a job offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This is particularly useful for pilot roles where prevailing wage determinations require careful occupational classification under DOL standards.
Plan your consulate appointment around type rating schedules
Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth consulates all process E-3 applications, but appointment availability varies. Book your interview slot as soon as the LCA is certified so training start dates and consulate timelines don't conflict.
E-3 Visa Pilot: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Pilot jobs in the U.S. that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. Filter by job title and visa type to surface airline and aviation employers who are set up to sponsor E-3 workers. Many carriers don't advertise E-3 sponsorship explicitly, so targeting employers with prior international hiring history is the most practical approach.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Pilot role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is classified and what credentials the employer requires. Airline transport pilot positions that mandate a bachelor's degree or higher in aviation, aeronautical science, or aerospace engineering typically meet the specialty occupation standard. Roles where a degree is listed as preferred rather than required can be harder to qualify. Your employer's job description and the DOL's LCA filing must reflect the degree requirement clearly.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian pilots?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens but has no lottery and no annual cap, so approval is not subject to random selection the way H-1B is. Pilots who qualify can receive E-3 status within weeks of a consulate appointment rather than waiting for an annual lottery cycle. The H-1B has an 85,000-slot annual cap and a highly competitive registration process, making the E-3 a structurally more reliable path for Australians who meet the specialty occupation standard.
Can I change airlines while on an E-3 pilot visa?
Yes, but the process starts fresh with each new employer. Your new airline must file a new LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before or shortly after starting with them. You can't port E-3 status the way an H-1B holder can use AC21 portability. Time your transition carefully to avoid a gap in authorized employment status.
