Translate your Australian certifications for U.S. employers
CREST ANZ credentials and AGSVA clearances don't map directly to U.S. equivalents. Frame them alongside CISSP, CEH, or CompTIA Security+ on your resume so hiring managers recognize their equivalency without extra explanation.
Target employers with active federal contracts
Defense contractors and federal IT services firms routinely sponsor E-3 visas for security operations roles because clearance-eligible candidates are scarce. Prioritize companies with GSA schedules or DoD contracts when building your target list.
Confirm the role qualifies before your first interview
Ask HR whether the position is classified as a specialty occupation under DOL guidelines. Hybrid roles blending general IT support with security duties sometimes fall outside E-3 eligibility, and confirming early prevents surprises at the LCA stage.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the full process
Once you have an offer, your employer needs to file an LCA with DOL before your consulate appointment can proceed. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so neither you nor your employer misses a step.
Prepare a degree equivalency letter before offers arrive
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted for E-3 eligibility, but some consular officers request a credential evaluation. Getting a NACES-member evaluation done in advance removes a common bottleneck from the offer-to-appointment timeline.
Check whether your employer needs E-Verify enrollment
If your role involves a STEM-designated function or your employer has federal contracts, E-Verify enrollment may already be required. Confirming enrollment status early matters because some employers don't realize it affects their ability to sponsor non-H-1B visas.
E-3 Visa Security Operations Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Security Operations Engineer jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. Rather than filtering general job boards manually, Migrate Mate surfaces Security Operations Engineer openings from employers already familiar with the E-3 process, saving you from cold-applying to companies that have never sponsored the visa.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Security Operations Engineer role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as computer science, information security, or cybersecurity engineering. Roles focused primarily on Tier 1 alert monitoring without requiring a specific degree may not meet the specialty occupation threshold, so the job description wording matters when the employer files the LCA with DOL.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for Security Operations Engineer roles?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so your employer can file at any point during the year and you can start as soon as the visa is approved. H-1B registrations enter a lottery with limited slots each fiscal year, meaning most applicants wait until October 1 at the earliest. For security operations roles with urgent hiring timelines, the E-3's predictability is a practical advantage.
Can I switch employers after my E-3 is approved for a Security Operations Engineer position?
Yes, but the E-3 is employer-specific, so your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new visa stamp if you travel internationally before starting. You can begin working for the new employer once their LCA is certified and you have a valid status, but you cannot port the E-3 the way some other visas allow mid-petition transfers.
