Document your credential equivalency early
Australian trade qualifications and three-year degrees often need a formal equivalency assessment before a U.S. employer can confirm specialty occupation status. Get a credential evaluation from a USCIS-recognized service before you start applying.
Target facilities management companies with LCA history
Search the DOL's Labor Condition Application disclosure data to identify employers who have sponsored maintenance and facilities roles before. Prior LCA filings show the employer already understands the E-3 visa process and won't balk at sponsoring an Australian hire.
Search for E-3 sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters roles by E-3 visa sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to employers unfamiliar with the process. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you've secured an offer.
Frame your specialty occupation case around systems expertise
A Facilities Maintenance Technician role qualifies as a specialty occupation only when it requires a specific degree, not general mechanical aptitude. Emphasize building management systems, HVAC controls, or facilities engineering responsibilities in your resume and offer letter.
Confirm your employer will file the LCA before accepting
The E-3 process requires your employer to file a certified LCA with DOL before you can apply at a consulate. Confirm this obligation during the offer stage so there are no surprises once you've accepted a role and need to start the clock.
Time your consulate appointment around your start date
E-3 visas are issued at Australian consulates with typical processing of two to four weeks after your interview. Book your appointment as soon as your employer's LCA is certified so your visa stamp is ready before your agreed U.S. start date.
E-3 Visa Facilities Maintenance Technician: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Facilities Maintenance Technician jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. It surfaces employers with verified sponsorship history for facilities and maintenance roles, so you're not spending time on applications where the employer has never navigated the E-3 process and may not be willing to start.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Facilities Maintenance Technician role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is defined. A general maintenance technician position that accepts any background won't qualify. A role that specifically requires a degree in facilities management, mechanical engineering, or building systems technology has a much stronger case. The job description and offer letter both need to reflect that degree-level knowledge is genuinely required to perform the work.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian facilities professionals?
The E-3 has a significant practical advantage: there's no lottery. H-1B visa registrations are entered into a random selection process each March, and you can go multiple years without being selected. The E-3 has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been reached, so if your employer files the LCA and you attend your consulate interview, approval is determined by your qualifications, not chance.
Can my employer use E-Verify if they sponsor me on an E-3?
Yes. E-Verify participation is separate from the E-3 visa process but compatible with it. Many larger facilities management employers are already enrolled in E-Verify. Your E-3 visa and work authorization documentation satisfies E-Verify's employment eligibility requirements, so this won't create any complications during onboarding.
