Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Senior Data Science Engineer
Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, or a related field satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation requirement. Get a credential evaluation in writing so your employer's HR team can confirm equivalency without delays.
Target employers with active DOL LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify companies that have filed LCAs for data science titles. Employers already familiar with the LCA process move faster and are less likely to stall at the sponsorship conversation.
Frame your role clearly as a specialty occupation
Job descriptions that list a bachelor's degree as 'preferred' rather than 'required' can complicate your E-3 application. Before accepting an offer, confirm the posting specifies a degree requirement in a specific field like computer science, mathematics, or engineering.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and paperwork
The LCA must be certified by the DOL before you can book your consulate appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so the process moves in the right sequence without errors that delay your start date.
Negotiate your offer around the prevailing wage requirement
The DOL prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and work location sets the floor your employer must certify on the LCA. Confirm the offered salary meets or exceeds that threshold before the employer submits the LCA to avoid a rejection and restart.
Prepare your portfolio for the consulate specialty occupation question
Consular officers sometimes probe whether senior data science engineer roles genuinely require a specific degree field. Bring project documentation, a degree-to-role statement from your employer, and evidence of specialized technical responsibilities to support your case.

Find Senior Data Science Engineer JobsSenior Data Science Engineer E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Senior Data Science Engineer jobs with E-3 sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search for Senior Data Science Engineer roles filtered by E-3 visa sponsorship. Most generic job boards don't filter by visa type, so you waste time applying to employers who won't sponsor. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers with documented sponsorship activity, so your applications go to companies already set up to file the LCA and support your visa.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Senior Data Science Engineer role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related discipline. Roles focused on model development, ML infrastructure, or data pipeline architecture consistently meet the specialty occupation definition. Roles where any technical degree qualifies regardless of field carry more risk at the consulate and may invite additional scrutiny.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Senior Data Science Engineers?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has no lottery, no annual cap, and no random selection process. H-1B petitions for the same role require registration in a lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate for most applicants. For Australians, the E-3 means a direct path from job offer to consulate appointment, typically within a few weeks, without the uncertainty of waiting on a March lottery result.
Can I switch employers on an E-3 as a Senior Data Science Engineer?
Yes, but you need to restart the process with your new employer. The new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL, and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp if yours was issued for your previous employer. You can begin work for the new employer as soon as the LCA is certified and you have a valid visa, so coordinating your start date around the LCA timeline matters.
