Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree in finance or accounting satisfies E-3 visa degree requirements, but U.S. hiring managers often expect four-year degrees. Attach a credential evaluation letter from a NACES-approved evaluator to your application to pre-empt any doubt.
Target companies with existing LCA filing history
Search the DOL's OFLC disclosure data for employers who have previously certified LCAs for financial leadership roles. A company that has filed for CFOs or Finance Directors already understands the E-3 process and is far less likely to withdraw an offer mid-hiring.
Find Senior Director of Finance jobs on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Senior Director of Finance roles by employers with active E-3 sponsorship history. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end once you have an offer confirmed.
Frame your role as a specialty occupation in offer letters
USCIS scrutinises whether a Senior Director of Finance role genuinely requires a specialised degree. Ask your employer to specify in the offer letter that the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in finance, accounting, or a directly related field, not just any business degree.
Time your LCA filing before resigning from current roles
The DOL must certify the LCA before you can attend your consulate appointment. LCA certification typically takes seven business days, but errors or prevailing wage disputes can delay it. Confirm your employer has submitted the LCA before you give notice to your current employer.
Prepare for consulate questions on nonimmigrant intent
Senior Directors of Finance frequently receive scrutiny over immigrant intent because the seniority of the role raises questions about long-term U.S. plans. Bring documentation of your Australian ties, such as property ownership, superannuation records, or family commitments, to your consulate interview.
E-3 Visa Senior Director Of Finance: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Senior Director of Finance jobs with E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find Senior Director of Finance roles where employers are already open to E-3 sponsorship. Because the E-3 requires employer-initiated LCA filing, targeting companies with prior E-3 or H-1B visa filing history saves significant time. Migrate Mate surfaces these roles and filters out employers with no sponsorship track record.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Senior Director of Finance role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Senior Director of Finance roles qualify as specialty occupations because they normally require a bachelor's degree or higher in finance, accounting, economics, or a directly related field. The position must genuinely require that specific degree, not just any four-year qualification. USCIS looks at the job duties and the industry standard for the role when making this determination.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Senior Director of Finance roles?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no cap, so Australian professionals can apply any time of year without competing for limited slots. The H-1B runs a randomised lottery each March, meaning a Senior Director of Finance offer could be lost even with a fully compliant petition. The E-3 is processed directly at an Australian consulate, typically within a few weeks of a certified LCA.
Can I change employers mid-E-3 if I receive a better Senior Director of Finance offer?
Yes, but the new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and obtain certification before you can begin work. You'll also need to attend a new consulate appointment or, if you're already in the U.S., explore a change of status. There is no portability provision for the E-3, unlike some other visa categories, so gaps in sponsorship need careful planning.
